Radon gas exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United State with over 21,000 deaths a year (over 600 in Georgia).

Radon enters houses because of the pressure differential between the earth under the house and the space in the house which causes the house to become a natural flue stack, ie. "stack effect".

The only way to know if your house has radon above the 4.0 Picocuries per liter of air (pCi/l) currently set by the EPA as the level to take action is to test. The use of a continuous radon monitor produces the most accurate test results.

Be sure you use a certified radon measurement professional to conduct the test. You can find these professionals at www.radongas.org.

The good news is that there are very effective and relatively inexpensive mitigation systems that can reduce most high radon levels to safe levels.
