I just came across this story in the Clayton Pioneer.
Sherrie Henderson of TLC Pet Grooming in Clayton has been working very hard to rescue 18 dogs ranging from 1-5 years old, all pure bred Beagles. The dogs have been used in labratory tests and the lab where they were being used is done with them . This means they are going to be put to sleep. The dogs were scheduled to be put to sleep at the end of January, Sherrie was able to get an extension through February. 10 of the dogs have been adopted, there are 8 still available. We only have until the end of February, please act fast.
According to Sherrie, the only thing wrong with these dogs is that they are used to living in a cage, therefore are not yet potty trained. Sherrie does not even know which lab the dogs are in, however has a contact, Debbie, who let her know about the situation. If you can help please call Debbie directly at 925.698.2976 or call Sherrie at TLC Pet Grooming, 6078 Main Street in Clayton, 925.672.2547.
According to Sherrie, when the labs are done with the test animals every few months, they are put to sleep if rescue efforts are not made.
This is just one of the many reasons I only buy products that are NOT tested on animals whenever humanly possible. Please adopt a Beagle if you can.
Thank you,

I can't imagine a lab doing tests on dogs and then just killing them. How awful. I'll say a prayer for those little beagles. I'm sorry I'm so far away. As you know I have "just bring it to my house" written all over my forehead.
Does Nor Cal Beagle Rescue know? They commonly deal with medical research dogs as well. I can give her the emails/numbers of the folks to work with.
We aren't fostering now as we are running a doggy hospice, but one of our fosters was a former research dog and she was such a love. There is nothing wrong with these guys.
Tammy, I do know that! : ) Poor babies.
Elizabeth, I do hope you give her a call that would be great to have the help I am sure. Thanks also for letting us know they are adoptable dogs.
I hope all those fine, furry, four-legged friends of ours find great forever homes.
I do too Jim!
Hello Chris,
Thank you for your post & bringing this to our attention. I will also re-blog and help to get the word out. My wife only buys "cruelty" free products too. That is great that 10 of 18 beagles have found homes. Now we have to help the other 8. They deserve a 2nd chance to have a better life that what they had at the testing laboratories. It would be horrific if they died only knowing the life as a laboratory dog. Please keep us informed about them. Again, we will pass the information along.
Chris
Please tell me we found homes for all of these dogs. We have a Beagle "Sadie" she is a wonderful pet. Thanks for posting this!
