Enough is Enough!

It's time to stop dwelling on the sins of the past, and

Focus on the solutions!

There is no doubt that there was an abundance of mistakes made in the real estate arena over the last 5-10 years. Some unintentional, some intentional, yes there was fraud and there still is, and unfortunately there always will be. We can try to isolate particular areas and industry's, but like it or not, the facts are that there is plenty of blame to go around. We, and I do mean we, as in all of us, can either admit it or not, but it's way beyond time to put that all behind us, and move on in a positive fashion with our sole focus on solving the problems, and putting sytems in place that will prevent the reoccurance of our mistakes. It's time once and for all to

Wipe the slate clean!

I believe it was President Reagan who asked after his first year in office, "are you better off today than you were last year?"

Well, are you?

I live in Southwest Florida and we got

Rocked, earthquake style!

Are we better off than we were last year, and the year before?

Absolutely!

Let's stop, right now, using the energy that we have to criticize, and point fingers at who's responsible, and expend that energy towards fixing the problems.

"I choose to believe, especially during the difficult economic times that our country has confronted recently, that realism is vital, but cycicism and negativity are deadly."

That's Meg Whitman; "the Power of Many, Values for Success in Business and in Life"

right on, right on, right on.

Check out the guy/gal in the mirror. What can they (you) do?

There will be more foreclosures; counsel the homeowners, be empathetic, help them through this period, be honest with them.

Be the best short sale specialist that you can be. Don't short your clients by not having the knowledge, or not doing the work necessary.

Hey, how about me and the rest of the lenders?

We've got lots to do to;

Educate the industry and consumers as to the plethera of changes and what they mean. Be honest with them.

Underwriting changes

Disclosure changes

and plenty more.

All right, all 174,115 of you, roll up your sleeves, and start working on the problems, in a positive fashion.

It's time to start over, if you already haven't, right now!

Wipe the slate clean!

 and

Focus on the solutions!

Either you embrace the changes or get left behind. You are right, plenty of blame to go around. Time to move one.

Our industry, the lending industry, certainly needed adjustments and after all the changes in the past year we are a better industry.  I believe we should remember the past, but not live there.  It's time, like you said to move forward and work hard, work ethically and work to educated our borrowers of all the changes.

Don't you think that a major part of the situation we face is a lack of personal responsibility. I mean many folks are so busy just trying to keep what they have. As you pointed out the time for blame has been gone for over a year. The elected leaders choose special interests and power over what the people are looking for. Unfortunately some big business should be allowed to fail. gulp. That we as a nation are financially propping up failing business is only going to prolong the problems and move them to the next generation. It would be painful, but the free" used loosely" market would fix itself. By the way if you think that our leaders will fix this, wake up, they will continue to do as they please knowing that they wont seek reelection, or will stimulate votes before elections. Become engaged in our nation, state, and local governments, and elect the ones who have solutions. Those who vote for special interest above the constituents should be removed.

Can't be done!  We are not at the bottom yet!

The big homes are about to be foreclosed on and there is no one buying into that market.

Foreclosures have lowered the value of most homes and most individuals have zero to negative equity.

Sorry

Jay-

great post and great thinking!  If all agents would apply the positive attitude and be the best they can be in any situation, things will get done.  Money can still be made you just got to be more creative.  I am sick of the negativity myself. Apparently some agents still are in the whoa is me stage!  SAD, SAD, SAD!!!

It would be a shame in real estate and elsewhere if this crisis is something that we just put a bandaid on and hope the gaping wound heals. This should be an opportunity to make things better. Let's not waste it.

Jay, I agree enough is enough. Here is one of my favorite quotes by Jeffrey Gitomer, an author on selling.

"Don't tell me what you can't do.

Tell me what you can do.

 Give me a solution.

 And don't puke on me!"

Until we quit pointing fingers and blaming everyone else for this housing crisis there will never be an upswing.  Thanks for this great reminder Jay.

I agree with keeping things positive. Sales in our area were still 70% of what they were during the few recent crazy years. That's not too bad. The challenge is to be one of the agents getting part of that 70%. Like you said, its time to get r done, so lets get back to work.

Jay,

This is the new normal and we need to move forward and figure it out! I find the more positive I am, that I am attracting a huge number of people to me. We are here to help and that takes work. We need to get to work and be thankful for what we have.

Well, I would just love to focus on a solution. Unfortunately, any solution will involve people in some way -- therefore it will not be a solution, just add to the problems.

Until people start acting more responsible and accountable across the board, nothing will get fixed.

Indeed. If you are not a part of the solution, tehn you are part of the problem. I'd rather be a part of the solution.

Jay, Thanks for the optimism.

I think that we now understand the problem. Hopefully well enough so that we don't repeat it.

Now the more energy we spend looking back or pointing fingers, the less energy we'll have to focus on solutions. Believing is seeing. I echo your thoughts - let's get on with it.

we get to choose what we read, and who we listen to.

Todd,

more personal responsibility is absolutely a must.

Sonny,

"can't be done?" i don't believe that!

that's exactly the type of attitude that is a deterent to going forward.

i'm not sorry for these comments

Agent Aaron,

"any solution would involve people?" duh, of course it would, that's why we can't miss!

to everyone,

thanks for all the comments, they are appreciated.

Jay, I choose to listen to the truth, you should know above all others that easing regulations in the past was a contributor, and the present problem of massive spending and borrowing is hurting the credit market. Positive thinking does work wonders, but all the positive thinking in the world cant change what government is doing to all of us. My business is ahead of this time last year, no thanks to what someone has done for me, but what I have done for me. Hold on to the Hope and Change philosophy, its really working out isn't it?

Todd,

if all the government had to do was to tax and spend its way back to prosperity that would be easy, but that's adding to the problem not creating a solution.

i like it. YOUR business is ahead of last year. i doubt that that success is being powered by whining and crying. good luck in 2010, keep knocking them dead. your doing your part, may others follow your example.

Jeff,

thanks, i'm just trying to do what i can to help.
