Is anybody actually communicating here in Michigan:
...whether politician or resident
...whether Dem or GOP
...whether working, retired or laid off
...whether Urban or Suburban
are we not all supposed to be working toward the rescue of this State or at least make this state business small and mid sized friendly ?
It is becoming more and more apparent that individual residents ARE becoming informed; they are reading [hopefully across the spectrum] articles about the business atmosphere of our state; they are listening & questioning what it is that our legislature is doing or has tried to do these past years. And, they are not into the "Blame Game" stance any more, if ever. The present Governor has been in office for almost 8 years; new legislature-- House & Senate--members have been elected in & out. All these persons share in the good, the bad, & the ugly within the congress here in Michigan.
For those in our Profession who have not yet received the MAR e-mail on the budget, I am certain that you will do so and soon. It was refreshing to see that the concern for all business entities in the state, and call the budget on the carpet in some business areas:
...those proposed are:
a... Eliminating the Michigan Business Tax [MBT] 22% surcharge over 2 year span--beginning in 2011
b....Reducing the MBT gross receipts tax from .8% to .6% over 3 years.
c....Proposed tax on Services [though real estate, among 10 other services is exempt] fall short of the
needed reforms 
During the past 7 days various ideas or 'leaks ?' have been floating around the state; now that the budget has been presented to the legislative bodies the actual items are being printed.
... the Battles are yet to come;
... the battles are set based along personal, geographic & yes, political beliefs & hopefully responsibilities. ... the battles are needed to get to the 'way to rescue this state'.
... the battles may get bogged-down in posturing, but with elections slated this November posturing could
result in job loss.
To call any politician on political games is a given- to use these games as a 'promise for better days ahead' is dangerous. This state & some others need to see a business friendly atmosphere enhanced by what is done within the legislative bodies in position now; I think that all our small business owners need to be applauded and supported; they need to get the tax relief needed to grow their business. Before anyone states that this is just another 'bail-out' --the credit should require proof that the business is viable; has been in action-business for a set number of years; has projected plans for growth and hiring; has a product [be it an actual item, a service or food based].
The proposed $200 T. or M. to 'teach entrepreneurs how to start a business' is bordering on oxymoronic. Any business at any time that does not produce that which the customer desires, will fold, period. True Entrepreneurs learn by reading, listening, & observing successful business owners; if they get financial backing it is more than likely from persons with whom they interact or have sought out on their own. [this was part of the SOS-did not find it in the budget items printed in the local newspapers , yet]
This is a state that I believe in, have lived in since 1940, & that is a great place to be. It has seen highs and lows; this is one of the highest-lows in many years. This is the starting place for many greats: Motown, G.M., Chrysler, Ford, sports teams; great individuals in all fields.
The spirit of Michigan is strong and ,left alone, will come back into fashion--differently perhaps, but as str
ong as before.
So, prepare for the battles as they will come;
prepare for the important Vote as it is slated
prepare for the success as it will be brought about by present & future business persons.
prepare for your choice of battle & choose wisely. grasshopper, Choose Wisely.
