Family Day is a statutory holiday that is recognized by  most Canadian Provinces.  It is celebrated on the third Monday in February.

On Monday, February 15th, the Town of Oakville has a full day of free activities lined up for family fun.  "Make Your Move Oakville" offers a schedule of events for all family members at participating town facilities.  Free public skating and swimming, fitness classes, library programs, sports demonstrations and much more are being offered on an even larger scale than last year.  family day, family swimming

All of this is being offered free due to the overwhelming success of last year's Family Day celebrations.  What better way to spend a holiday Monday than to head out to one of Oakville's many arenas, community centres, pools or libraries to spend some quality family time with the added benefit of some great exercise.

The free skating and swimming are courtesy of Tim Hortons.

More than 100 free activities will be taking place at the following locations.

  • Glen Abbey Community Centre and library
  • Iroquois Ridge Community Centre and library
  • River Oaks Community Centre
  • Joshua's Creek Arena
  • Kinoak Arena
  • Maple Grove Arena
  • Oakville Arena
  • Centennial Pool
  • White Oaks Pool

Jenny, you're a little far from the action, but I just wanted to stop by and wish Canada much success in the Winter Olympics.  I was watching the opening ceremonies and thought of you and  some of my other Canadian friends...good luck!

Hi Jenny... what a great idea for a holiday!  I am hoping that those pool events are indoor polls though!  Outdoor swimming in Canada in February just doesn't sound like a good idea... unless you are a polar bear!  :)

Hi Nick - I will be watching the activities on TV but my sister and family are heading out to Whistler for 10 days.  Lucky them.  Truth be told, I don't really like big crowds anyway.

Hi Steve - yes they are all indoor lol.  What about the outdoor pool at your condo?  Why does it still have water in it in Feb?  Especially now that you have snow in Dallas.

Hi Marc - The Town of Oakville is working hard to get people out and about with their "Make Your Move" program.  I'm on the Parks and Rec. Advisory Committee and I must say there are a lot of good things happening in Oakville these days.  Our new quad pad rinks will be open this year and an old high school is being converted into an arts and culture centre for groups.  Very exciting.
