While the majority of the US is hit by blizzards, we are having showers, sun breaks, and 50 degree weather.  I have been watching the news and speaking with several of friends scattered around the US.  Some of them have been snowed in for a while now and have gotten several feet of snow in just a few days!  I hope that you will take a minute to visualize yourself in a warmer place!  Here are some photos to get you started!  Stay warm and safe everyone!! :)

Hawaiian Sunset

These were taken in Kihei Maui Hawaii

Hawaiian Sunset

This is Barnacle Bill.  We named him after swimming with him for a month.  I followed him to this patch of coral where I dove down about 15 feet to get this picture.  I don't have any good underwater gear yet, but when I do...

Underwater Sea Turtle

This turtle swam in a straight line right at me.  I realized when he was about 5 feet from me that he was not going to move and that if I didn't want to get run over by this enormous turtle... I had better move fast!!!  Just as I pushed myself backwards in the water, he was next to me.  Literally withing 6 inches of me.  As he swam by my face, he turned his face and looked me right in the eyes!! His eyes were 2 inches from mine!  In my head I was repeating to myself, "Don't bite me, Don't bite me..."!  I was so shocked that I forgot about my camera until he started to swim past me!  I wish that I had a picture of us face to face!  That is something I will never forget!!

I love the way the water has so many different colors.

Maui

This is the rim of the crater of Haleakala.

volcano

I have posted this photo once before.  It is one of my favorites.  This is directly in front of my Mother's home in Maui.  Her back yard is the beach.  Yes, I could live like that!!!

Volcano

You can walk down into the crater along the right side where the black line meets the rise of the crater lip by the red clay dirt.  It is quite an amazing sight to see in person.

I took these 1 day after the tsunami.  The waves were 6 to 10 feet tall.  About a month ago the waves were 50 feet tall and they had to shut this beach down.   It was crazy!  This is one of my favorite surfing holes!  Great waves and lots of sun!

North Shore Maui

I hope you are all feeling a bit warmer now!

Hello Kim,

Glad to hear you are still having some warmer weather.  I heard on the news this morning that 49 of the 50 states got snow yesterday.  That is crazy!  It even snowed in Florida.  Strange weather for sure.  Have a great weekend.

Hi Peter and Dawn, Some beautiful photos there. I am anxious for Spring and the colors that we will have from the nice rains this year. As wet as it has been we have barely scratched the surface of the need.

Enjoyed all your shots, especially the ones of the crater.  Are you seeing any events in the Olympics?

Peter, Those are extraordinary pics.  And your moms "backyard" is something else.  In Naples, we wait for the magnificent turtles to swim to lay eggs.  I have witnessed them laying their eggs on the beach.  Not to match your experience....but a special connection.  I can imagine the turtle looking into your eye.  What a connection. Thank you so much for sharing

Hi Marcia,

Thanks.  I would love to see that event.  I bet that is a spectacular sight!  It was my wife who was in Maui and had the run in with the turtle.  It was quite the experience.  When we went together last time, she took me to her turtle cove and showed me the turtles there.  It is a beautiful beach.  Right now the whales are there.  My Mother in law can watch them breech from her living room couch.  It is really neat to watch.  We went out whale watching one year while visiting the island.   Thanks for sharing your turtle experience with us.  We hope you have a wonderful week!  :)
