So as you may or may not know depending on how avid of a reader you are, I have been writing a book for about three years.  It is about my journey as a successful real estate investor to someone who cares more about life and less about the almighty dollar finally to a person who lives a happier life.  I guess you could say that I am finally out of the "rat race".  I am thinking adventure parable with my journal being some type of old manuscript.  I will probably place the story 30 years from now and have 2012 happen, burying and destroying our current way of life.  Tell me what you think about that possibility.

Now for my title and my question.  Why did God kill all of the people in Haiti?  Why do we have any natural disasters?  Please dont write for population control, because I was there, and you do not know the feeling that was among those people.  Also with that, why does God tell us to Honor our parents and then give us cheats and crooked people as parents.  I havent spoken with my parents in quite some time, so this isnt just someone mad at their parents.  In fact, they left my sister to fend for herself at age 14, when I first enlisted in the military.

Why does God kill innocent people in  natural disasters and why are we supposed to honor people that dont deserve to be honored?  Please help me out with his one.

Thanks

I don't know why He kills innocents but I do believe that He uses situations to reach out to people. I recently had my 2 year old son diagnosed with a very agressive cancer and was given less that 10% chance of survival. In the 1 1/2 since, he has touched and changed so many peoples lives. He brought me back from a downward spiral and has brought many back to God. One month into my son's treatment, he looked at me and said "Mommy, I save you, You save me". I have no doubt in my mind God was speaking through him. There are terrible things in this world but so much good comes from some of the worst situations.

I am not a very spiritual person, but I guess the answer is that there are many occurrences that we are incapable of explaining or understanding.  I do believe that there is a purpose for everything.  Perhaps, the purpose for disasters and other things we don't fully understand is to test our will, our spirit, and our faith.

Regarding why we should honor people who don't deserve to be honored, the deserve part is for God to judge, not us.  We can honor our parents and not condone their behavior.

God DIDN'T kill the people in  Haiti. God does not direct the forces of nature, and he doesn't "point" hurricanes or earthquakes at people (no matter what Pat Robertson may say). God set the forces of nature running, and lets them run.

Now if you ask "why did God allow the people to die..." I don't know the answer, maybe the answer was different for every one of the people. Maybe God tried to warn them. Maybe he saved a lot who would have otherwise died. And we need to remember that keeping us alive is NOT God's primary concern for us.

AS far as the parents are concerned- it comes under the same category as "why should we forgive people who don't deserve it?" Because it damages US if we don't. Honor doesn't mean like/praise/kiss up to.

God does not cause these things to happen-it is because man lives for the flesh.I agree with Leslie-these things happen because man is full of sin.

It is Gods' direction to love those that smite us-as he did to  those that killed him.

Joey - There is no answer to your questions that human minds can comprehend.  What you're addressing are infinite concepts and are attempting to understand them with a finite mind--an impossible task.  Rather than struggle with such questions, my choice is to try to do the very best I can in all circumstances.  I cannot begin to understand the actions of another person, much less a Supreme Being.

Good luck in your writing (I undertook a similar project several years ago and it changed the course of my life).

Good Morning Joey, God didn't kill these people.  The forces of nature caused their deaths.  It is up to us to help them though these terrible times.
