SHOOTING CLAY PIGEONS IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA.  DON'T LET THE SNOW KEEP YOU INSIDE!  GET OUT AND ENJOY THE DAY!

WHAT SPORT OR OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DO YOU REGULARLY ENJOY???

Golf?  It's a bit hard to walk or drive the links in this snow, but yesterday, I saw a driving range that was open for business.

Swimming?  Join the Y.  Many have indoor pools.

Hiking?  Find a subdivision with cleared roads and don't challenge autos.

Fishing?  HA!  That one may have to wait, but you can certainly put new line on your favorite reel.  Spring will be here before you know it.

Sledding?  My goodness, the opportunities are endless.

Shooting?  Bull Run Shooting Center in Centreville is open in almost all weather.

FOR ME??  I love to get to the shooting range and shoot TRAP or SKEET.  There are few shooters out in this weather.  However, if I don't have a buyer who wants to tour properties in my neighborhood and if the range is open, no matter what the weather, I'll be there on Saturday or Sunday, sometimes both.

This past week has been tough for builders and few are open.  I will not take buyers on to icy walks to a model.  That builder has got to clean the walks before I'll risk injury to buyers (or myself).

HOW DO YOU SHOOT OUTDOORS IN 30 F. WEATHER???

JUST ADD ANOTHER LAYER.

          Trap Shooting

Shooting Trap on February 13th about 1:00 p.m.  The temperature was a cold 28 F. and the wind was about 10 mph.  However, with warm boots, gloves, a hat, three layers of clothing and a coating of Vaseline on my face to block the wind, I was comfy and got the practice in that I want every single week.  Yes, I missed last weekend only because I couldn't get out of my driveway.

I got in 100 birds yesterday.  Good practice.

BELOW ARE THE GUYS AT THE RANGE.

          Bull Run Shooting Center

The range is in Centerville in Fairfax County near Prince William County and Manassas.  If you'd like to enjoy some clay pigeon shooting with me, just give me a call.  I'm ready.

Like so many folks in the real estate industry, we work hard.  I also play hard.  I suppose it's the competitive gene that let's me enjoy outdoor activities no matter what the weather.

If I were closer I would go with you for sure! Getting out and doing "stuff" is great advice, even in the cold. Dress for it and have tons of fun!

Andrea.  Indeed.  Tons of fun is my goal.  Also, of course, is the desire to practice to stay on top of my game.

My shotguns weigh 7.5 lbs and if you don't shoot often, well, it gets pretty heavy.

Lenn, Once, with friends, I tried using a shotgun to shoot some pigeons.  Needless to say......it is hard, not only is the rifle heavy, but when I fired the gun, man did it hurt my shoulder.  First and last time for that... :)

Hi Lenn - You are full of surprises! What a great way to spend a cold winter day - You didn't have to shovel your own path, did you? LOL Fun post!

Hi, Lenn. PULL! I loved sporting clays when I lived in New England but there's nothing like that here. I had a .20-gauge Beretta "Onyx" over/under, which I sold, but I still have the same gun in .12 gauge...in my closet.

Sure wish I was closer! Your picture of "the boys" made me laugh!

Leslie.  Too bad you're not near by.  We could shoot some birds together.  It's great fun.  I was out there again today.  Got in 150 birds.

Debi.  HA!  The guys at the range shovelled the paths.  I don't believe I'd want to drudge in the snow to shoot targets.

Rebecca.  If someone had shown you how, it might not have been so bad.

Lenn, the sound had to be deafening with the brisk cold air. There is only one trap range near to our area down along the Shoreline in Stratford. The shooters fire towards the water but are too far away to actually hot anything on the water. Shooting clay pigeons could be entertaining and good for the reactions, but how on earth do you cok them later.

Ed.  Goodness.  We wear ear plugs.  I lost a lot of hearing in my right ear shooting years ago without plugs.  Learned my less and now I won't shoot without them.

I so need to get out of the house and do something even if it is nothing more than walking the subdivision.  I think I am suffering a little bit of cabin fever.

I must admit I never shot outdoors or clay pigeons,  Looks like a lot of fun!  I do shoot indoors in the Atlanta area a 9mm, and a 9 short (.380).  It is  a lot of fun!

Wow!  what fun!  I haven't done that in years but I should.  Thanks for reminding what fun it was.  Never in the snow though :)

Lenn, why does fishing have to wait.  Just poke a hole in the ice on a lake and your all set :) :) :)

Lenn, looks like fun.  I shoot with my dad and son's when I get a chance to go home.  But snow has never been an issue in Texas....not until this week.

Charles.  Get out.  Escape.  You'll be invigorated.

Jim.  I enjoy pistol target shooting.  However, the thrill of hitting a moving target is much more fun.

Ricki.  The walks were cleared.  The snow had no effect.

Ritu.  It's in the Bull Run Regional Park.

George.  The ice on our lakes is just a thin cover.  Can't walk them.  Or, is your tongue in your cheek?

Lisa.  HA!  Unless one is in Hawaii, snow is the story.

Renee.  Very nice.

Now that is cool! On Long Island, no one shoots anything, lol. It's really nice to see what others' hobbies and interests are in other parts of the country. A friend of mine who lives in West V.A., bought her 8 year old daughter a pink shot gun. They are avid hunters.

I have to try that sometime, but first I will have to buy one of those guns!  I will consult an expert (Like yourself) before I jump in to this!  I agree, that would be a lot of fun!

Jackie.  And that daughter will benefit from the bonding for all of her life.

Jim.  Come on over and we'll shoot a few rounds.  The range has guns.

The shooting photo reminded of a time when I lived in Colorado, several of us went to a friends cabin high in the Mts just before a 4 foot snow storm.  The next day the sun was shining and the temp's got to the high 60's.  Guys shoveled a path, got out the horse shoes and stakes, played a game in the snow.  Girls got out the lawn chairs and sun tanned!

Rande.  No doubt that I would have been with the guys playing horseshoes.

Hi Lenn, my husband shoots trap and skeet in competition.  I have gone with him a few times and shot.  Enjoyed it tremendously and what a great stress reliever.  Glad to see some women in the sport, also.

Micki.  It's great fun.  I shot competition skeet and trap for many years, but don't any more.  No time to get in the 1,000 birds a week for practice.  There are few women who shoot in Northern Virginia.  They don't know what they're missing.
