Sidney is located on the Saanich Penninsula of Vancouver Island, about 20 kilometres north of Victoria. Sidney is surrounded on three sides by North Saanich, and is the focus of the residential real estate market since North Saanich is primarily an agricultural region.

Incorporated as a village in 1952, Sidney has experienced steady growth and currently has more than 11,000 residents. It is the primary business hub for the Penninsula. One of the features of the town is Sidney by the Sea which has a thriving mixture of retail and professional services available.
