Texting Hazardous to Your Health?

Gary L White, Flexit Realty www.FlexitRealty.comMany states are reviewing the problem with driving and Text Message sending.

The problem is going to be enforcement of the law if it is pasted.  We have had several accidents in our area caused by a driver "Texting".

I wear a Bluetooth ear piece to minimize my driving distractions.  Another advantage with my personal email and messaging plan is "voice activated dialing".  All I do is say dial by name...wait a second or two for the activation into voice dialing and say the name of whom I wish to call.

I have added another little feature to my electronic toolbox...voice recording.  It is a one sided record...and only digitally tapes my notes.  For example, a prospect offers me a return phone number...I repeat the number aloud as though I am writing it down, in reality it is being recorded for my future reference.

I was next to a vehicle when a text generation driver was looking at the tiny keys and punching a message.  I spotted the driver "drift" within the lines but make jerky corrections.

If I noticed it how easy would it be for a police officer to pull you over for "reckless or careless" driving.  TheThe Blackberry Makes Texting Easy enforcement is as easy as asking to see your cell phone and look at the last entry time stamp.  I am sure you are going to have to offer your authorization for them to review your last message time stamp.  The alternative is sitting your butt in jail waiting on a court order.  Add the towing costs, court costs and the ticket...saying no might be very expensive.

Texting can be hazardous to everyone that is on the road around a car that has a drivers attention diverted because sending or receiving text messages.

We have technology alternatives to this problem.

The other easier option...pull over and stop, then complete your text message.  Once done...go back to your trip plans safely without causing any disruption in your life or others.

I like the new found freedom of texting and use it daily but...only when there is not danger to others or myself.  By the way if you don't know if your phone is capable of voice dialing call your carrier or stop into your nearest cell phone store to check your plan...if you can't do it online from your phone!

What has been your experience texting?

May be they should have made phone text first before enabling us to talk. Then made it voice activated. Just a thought!

I submit to the no phone zone in my car.

I love text to get or send a phone number or other information, I use it as kind of a phone post it note. Although, It isn't part of my daily communication process.

Best regards,

Hi Ted, it will be a challenge to enforce.  South Carolina seems to have done it with radar detectors...  Who would have thought.  Thanks for the comments Ted.

No texting for me either while driving. My phone is connected to my GPS with voice dialing...not fancy but functional and safe!
