National City, California is hoping to create its own Central Park. A vast green refuge for residents in the middle of dense urban community. A plan in its conceptual stages envisions the trasformation of a public golf course into a nealy mile-long recreational oasis.
Naitonal City is looking at transforming a nine hole .44-acre public golf course mostly used by out-of-towners into a nearly mile-long recreational oasis with a dog park, community farm, soccer field, public citrus grove, shops and cafes, restored creek, and pedestrian and bicycle paths
Per City officials National City is one of the county's most densely populated municipalities. Residents have no access to the city's bayfront. With the national standard for open space in cities at 10 acres of park per 1,000 residents, National City's ratio is 2 acres per 1,000 residents.
