A Safe Place in Mexico

There has been a lot of noise from various media in the past year or so regarding the drug related violence in Mexico.  What has not been made clear is that the problems are primarily in the north, particularly in boarder towns.  You would not expect people to avoid Los Angeles if shootings occurred in Detroit... but this is exactly what has occurred in Mexico.

Huatulco is a small eco-resort on the southern Pacific coast of Mexico and we tell people that it is probably safer than where they currently live...we rarely lock our car doors and  walk our dog at night without concern.  The area was developed as a resort by the Federal government to bring income into one of the poorest states in the country.  As a result it has excellent infrastructure as well as the most beautiful beaches on the Pacific... all 36 of them.

A Bed & Breakfast in Huatulco was recently featured on CNN as one of Mexico's Top Ten Seaside Hideaways.  The same property is on the market.  For more information  www.findire.com/Property_For_Sale_Huatulco-Oaxaca-Mexico/1/0/0

Welcome to ActiveRain.  I have visited a few places but have never been to Huatulco.  I am sorry to hear that the news of trouble in the north has affected other areas.

It does sound as safe or safer than here.  I can walk my dog at night but I would not leave my car unlocked.

Not only do I leave my car unlocked, I leave my fresh fruit and veg thatI bought in the back while I run into the bakery.

Lack of knowledge leads to fear and the development of stereotypes.  The media often does a great job of presenting the negative or just a basic view of a subject.  When that side of the story is front and center, the positive aspects are often forgotten or unknown altogether!  Thanks for sharing some good news about Mexico!

I have heard the stories about how scary it is in Mexico - good to hear that there are nice places, I love how you make your point with the LA-Detroit comment.

Feeling safe where you live is very important to me.  It is at least 110 degrees here in the summer, I leave my car running with the air on while I grocery shop at Walmart.

( Gray Toyota Camry, the one with the engine running, if anyone would like one, it is insured for more than it is worth :)
