The Metro area is home to many private and Montessori schools for those that seek an alternative education to public school options. Many denominations are available including, but not limited to, Catholic, Jewish, Baptist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Christian, Interdenominational, and also non-sectarian.

Grades available per school differ, with some being Elementary or Secondary only, while others are a mixture of both. Saint Thomas Academy, founded in 1885 serves young men in grades 7-12, while Convent of the Visitation is the only all-girls secondary school (grades 7-12) in Minnesota.
