Another Ode to Winter

My picturesque snow laden backyard is melting into a soggy mess that will have me slugging through the mud through the next week while I attempt to wait patiently for hard firm footing. And we’re not even going to discuss freezing nights and black ice; oddities here. Strange for a place where warm sunny days and people in shorts can be found even in the dead of winter. Not this year. To be honest, I’m not certain if I can remember what a dry blade of grass looks like. This winter has been nothing if not wet. I’m starting to wish I could hibernate and come out in a few months a little grumpy but having slept through the worst. But there is a glimmer of warmth and a touch of green shimmering on the horizon. Although it’s hidden right now under a cloud of gray, this area’s ready to burst with sunshine and warmth, spring celebrations such as the Azalea festival, the opening farmers markets; and outdoor activities like golfing, swimming, and sightseeing through our wonderful historic and natural areas.

It’s the only thing keeping me sane. So, as of today I find myself seated in a highback chair next to my fireplace with my unremarkable short stubby nose stuck in my favorite book of the moment. Consequently it happens to be set in a warm, dry, sunny climate that is flourishing with green. Oh well, one can always dream. "Another Ode to Winter" was provided by BlueWriter.
