Fat Tuesday, the Last Mardi Gras HurrahToday the final parades wind thru Louisiana and surrounding states that have taken up the Mardi Gars fever.  While the parades and beads are fun, one of the most important items during this season is the King Cake.  It is fit that this king cake would be found everywhere and that people would indulge all during the Mardi Gras period of February.  Hummm.  Fat Tuesday.   That's how everyone is feeling about now, Fat.  All winding down to Ash Wednesday and fasting.

King Cakes are served each day during the Mardi Gras season thru Fat TuesdayAllrecipes has a Mardi Gras King Cake you can make for your family.  The one who gets the plastic baby (referred to as Baby Jesus in Catholic tradition) in his/her piece gets certain predetermined privileges, and a responsibility of buying the next king cake.  King cake parties in New Orleans are documented back to the eighteenth century.  They start with the first day and are consumed daily or weekly thru Fat Tuesday.

So run to the store and bake up your cake for this evening.  Play a game and come up with some privileges for the one who gets the baby.  Trust me.  Those of you in the frozen north will love it with hot chocolate or coffee.
