By
Real Estate Agent with Na Pali Properties, Inc.

Hawaii's Division of State Parks is in the process of preparing a Master Plan for Ha`ena State Park and an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Master Plan's proposal. A letter from Daniel S. Quinn, State Parks Administrator, dated Feb. 9th invites individuals & organizations with long-standing ties to Kauai's Ha`ena State park or those who are particularly knowledgeable about the resource & planning issues that need to be addressed by the Master Plan, to offer their input.

This advisory group is being sought to review broad issues such as historical & cultural preservation; traffic & parking; safety; routine & ongoing maintenance, natural resource protection; recreational uses and more. Mr. Quinn explains in his letter that "We anticipate participation in the advisory group may be needed over the next two years. Initially there may be monthly meetings followed by quarterly meetings until the Master Plan and EIS are accepted by the Board of Land and Natural Resources. . . . We anticipate a membership of 12 to 15 representatives from the following interest areas:

1. Cultural resources/Ha`ena families (4 representatives)

2. Environmental concerns (2 reps)

3. Recreational uses (2 reps)

4. Nonprofits/community organizations (2 reps)

5. Business interest (2 reps)

5. Other agency interests (2 reps)

If you are interested in participating in the Master Plan advisory group, please contact one of the following by phone or email:
