I thought this was a great post on rejection.  It's such a common occurrence in the real estate business because we need to dig, at times, to find the business.  We don't always strike gold when we dig.  We often strike a gas line!!!

Via Gabrielle (Kamahele) Rhind, Associate Broker (Tierra Antigua Realty, Tucson AZ Real Estate):

It is inevitable - at points in our life - we are going to get turned down.  In real estate, especially with cold calling - it happens - even with veteran agents!

Yesterday was a brutal "calling expired's" day - there was just no love on the phone!  The worst - a listing I walked away from.  The Seller listed with another agent at "his price" and subsequently, it expired.  When he answered the phone, all I was able to say was, "Hi this is Gabrielle...." and on came statements such as: "What the "(*&^" are you calling me for?" and "It seems like you are calling to rub it in my face."

Ugh.  As I reached for some chocolate - I thought about some ways to get over rejection:

Don't take it personally. If you get rejected, don't think it's because you aren't skilled or good enough!

Stay positive and have confidence in yourself.  Getting rejected can a blessing in disguise - always look at the upside of someone telling you "NO"!  And always handle the disappointment with grace and good character!

Be objective.  Pay attention to why you were rejected and decide if you have a second chance, i.e., maybe a Seller needs more time to re-list, etc.

Know that everyone gets rejected. You aren't alone here!  Just take a break and do something positive to clear your mind!

Try and try again. A popular sales motto is that it takes twenty "nos" to get to one "yes."  So keep moving forward!

No doesn't always mean no!  It's just not yes yet!

I find it so hard not to take rejection personally.  I mean, it is personal, right?  The consumer didn't like something about my approach, my pricing, my experience, my whatever.  But that's life, and we're not all meant to work with each other. -- Tanya in Montreal

Tanya.....Right.....Not everyone blends, but they don't have to be so damn nasty about it.....Please take me off your list or just throw the postcard away....it doesn't take up much room in the waste basket....

I think the nastiness was probably because the seller knew he made a mistake.  It's amazing how some people treat others.
