I was out showing property recently, In Mandy Farms subdivision and the potential buyer asked why every home in the neighborhood had a dog house in the front yard!?

A lot of homes outside of city limits are on well water.  Those little dog houses they were asking about were actually Well pump houses.  If you have well water, A Well pump house is a good idea to protect the well pump from cold, rain and sun and will save you money in the long run.  Not only that, but most well pump houses are nicer to look at than the actual system.

There are many different Well Pump Houses you can go with.  Some people go with the simple "Large Fiberglass Rock" purchased as hardware and landscaping supply companies.  Others build their well pump house to duplicate the actual home.  In Mandy Farms Subdivision in Morehead City, there are several that look likMandy Farms, North Carolinae actual wells.

The well pump house is an extension of the home itself, and you can be creative in design, or simple and basic.  If you are handy, you can even build your own Pump House.

I was never aware of the pump houses either until I moved down here nearly a decade ago.

I've seen some pretty creative ones since then though!

Love the "build it yourself" link!

Craig - We actually have the Fake Rock - Tanner calls it Elephant Poop :-).  I had never seen them before moving to NC.  The build it yourself link is printed and posted in my garage for a summer project (you know, one of those rainy, no beach, kinda days).

Karen Anne - Your comments always make me smile...You are so witty!

Yes, Amy... thank you.  But... on the days when I am working at only fifty percent of my "wittiness" capacity... does that make me "half-witty ?"  I think yes !

How deep are your wells Amy?  Our well pumps are in the "house" or deep in the ground, either inside the well casing or deep into a "dry well".  You could say they need to be "six feet under"!
