Interview Top Agents

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty ONE Group

When I first entered the real estate business, I sat down with the most successful agents in the industry that I knew and scheduled a one on one interview to pick their brain.  I composed a list of all the concerns and questions I wanted to know about.  How they market, how long it took to get their first sale, what they did for the community, what clients expect, etc.

I inquired as to the top 10 things that made them successful & the 10 things they would never do again.  Basically I wanted a crash course in real estate and to by-pass many of the mistakes these seasoned agents had made.  It took these agents many years to acquire this knowledge and experience, and if I could gain insight in a single interview to make myself a better agent overall, I was going to take notes and listen.  Thank you to all those wonderful agents who gave me their precious time to me.  I still have my notes and often refer back to them to stay on track.  And in turn, I am passing on to the newer agents tools of the trade that I have learned over the years.

Do you have any ideas to share that helped or hindered you in real estate?

wow....

i dont think that any of the top agents would ever sit down with me and let me pick their brain. The only agents that would allow that are the ones on AR.

I once asked a broker if i could talk to his top agent. He said NO, dont even try, they wont talk to you...

Thats great they sat down with you....

what was their tip issues? would you share this?

Some top agents will make the time, others just let you fall on your face. Thank God my company is  profit sharing company, its our culture here to help newer agents. When I was new, I did the same thing. I wanted to be around successful agents, and I still do!.

Staying away from negative agents is crucial. Just walk away, block your ears to negativity.

My office is also one in which the more successful and experienced agents help the incoming agents.  I learned a lot from interviewing them when I got my license, and I still go to some of them for advice on a regular basis.  More than techniques, they help me with motivation that keeps me in the game.

My tip is this. Dress for success. You only have one impression and it is the first impression. All personal marketing should be the same with the "money shot" on all business cards, mailings, ads etc.  I would be more then happy to share via  email.
