When I lived in Illinois, a good friend of mine had a family of Raccons living in her attic. They were able to get into the home through a vent located on the exterior of the house....  Eventually her livingroom ceiling caved in from all their fecal matter.....I never forgot this, so whenever I hear a noise in my attic it freaks me out...

I had Raccoons living under my wooden deck. I had Coyotes regularly visiting my backyard.  To rid the little critters I installed motion lights all around my house to scare them off.  The motion lights are great for security to scare off any unwanted guests...

Here in Texas we don't have basements.  We do have a lot of attic space for storage ...Every once in awhile I can hear little weird sounds in the attic.  My Exterminator has checked the attic several times and said that we might have a bird up there even though he couldn't actually see anything...

The other day I saw a mouse run across my patio !!   So now I'm paranoid...

For the past year I have been collecting socks...Yes Socks....They are all the socks without a matching sock.  So far I have a full laundry basket full.  I feel that if I throw them away it's a huge waste.  So I have come up with a plan !!

I'm going to make a bunch of stink bombs with my unwanted socks !!  Years ago I read that if you have rodents in your attic,  take a Tube Sock and fill it with a filler (like more socks) dip the Tube sock in Ammonia and launch the socks around your attic.... it will deter critters from living in your attic.

The following is a website that offers great tips to eliminating pests...

I feel bad for those of you with problems like this, but not that bad. While rodents and other animals are not good to have around in AZ I deal with scorpions, black widows, snakes and other very poisonous spiders. I can't seem to rid my house of black widows so my girls play indoors mostly. Thanks for the good post :)

this year even after putting wires all over the house..I have birds making nest on top of my roofs and other places ..and honeybees making a nest on side of my house .. not sure if i should call pest people yet as i have plenty of roses, and other flowers needing bee service.

Hello Lauren, after looking at the link you provided I was glad to see there was no recommendation for cats to rid your mouse problem.  We have three cats and they only bring the rodents in as trophies to show us how adept they are at hunting.  Good luck with your stink bombs!  Maybe the mouse is using the other socks, find out where he's hiding them before his good riddance.

The ammonia sounds like a great idea as long as th smell stays up in the attic and doesn't permeate throughout the house. Went into a house recently where they had tossed boxes of mothballs in the attic and the house reeked of them.

Hi, I have never heard of that before. Thanks for posting!!  I have an older rental that I might be able to try this on.

When everything is "all clear" and there are no critters invading our property, we SO take it for granted.  Let us know if your stinkbombs work!

I see you are within a few points of hitting 50,000 - maybe even today.  Congratulations!

We deal with this all the time! As the owner of a pest control company here in Tarrant county www.anttspestcontrol.com 817-366-3130, we always suggest a good exterior inspection for any hole the size of a nickle. When located any holes this size, stuff them with stainless steel wool. You may also want to trim some tree limbs if they are touching the roof. As far as the sock, well maybe if you put one or two moth balls in it it may help. Happy hunting A.N.T.T.S Pest control 817-366-3130 www.antts.biz
