How walkable is your client's neighborhood?

First we had Zillow, then came Trulia.  Okay, I am not sure about the order.  However there is a new tool that may prove to be a usefull tool in the REALTORs arsenal of online resources.  The tool is  a walk score http://www.walkscore.com/ and it is a Google Maps mashup that ranks essentially how "walkable" your neighborhood is.    I have not spent much time on the site, but the tool looks promising, especially is you specialize in young families and those that want to take advantage of the great outdoors, or those that want to keep a green lifestyle and save on gas.

Here is the low down from the walk score website:

What does my score mean?

Your Walk Score is a number between 0 and 100. The walkability of an address depends on how far you are comfortable walking-after all, everything is within walking distance if you have the time. Here are general guidelines for interpreting your score:

Very cool... a great resource for those who truly want the option of not putting the keys in the ignition everyday. If for nothing else, it's a fantastic tool for people to weed through a sea of listings as they hunt for a home. Thanks for the post-

It has ground to a crawl  (can't do any right now) but I will go back and look!  That does sound pretty neat. I'll have to bookmark you to find my way back...

Very interesting tool!  We have quite the biking community around here... so it might be of big interest.  Thanks!

My walk score is 35. That's not so bad.  This service can be rather useful especially for those
who are going to buy a house or just want to estimate their present location.  I have also tried one more service at http://drivescore.fizber.com/. It is called Drive Score. With the help of it you can see how close establishments are by car. My result is 50. Drive Score calculates your score based on the number of places within a convenient driving distance. The greater the number of businesses
nearby the higher the drive score.
