Non Mayor of Woodbridge VA

There is none!!!! Woodbridge, VA is neither an incorporated borough, township, town or city and does not have a mayor or council normally associated with an incorporated location.

WHY YOU ASK? Woodbridge is a geographic location in Prince William County. It's boundaries are determined by 3 ZIP codes - 22191, 22192 and 22193

Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia if you live in a county (that's the vast majority of us) all of your services are provided by the county. That includes schools, public safety, water and sewer, courts, libraries, hospitals etc. The elected officials of the county are Supervisors and one of those folks is the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. The day-to-day business of managing county agencies falls to the County Executive who serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors. This is also true of the police chief, fire chief, and school superintendent. The sheriff is elected as is the clerk of court. Therefore, you only pay one tax - your real estate tax. You do pay a water and sewer bill since that is a function of your personal usage. Woodbridge gets along quite nicely without a mayor.

Non City Hall in Woodbridge VAARE THERE TOWNS and CITIES IN VIRGINIA? You bet there are. They have mayors and town or city councils just like other states. They provide all of their own services and do not normally receive services from the surrounding counties. However, there are instances where smaller incorporated towns and cities purchase services from the surrounding county such as school and water and sewer service. You may have a seperate tax to defray the cost of these purchased services, but they are usually included in your municipal tax.

Quaint? Not really, we've been doing it as long as there's been a United States of America and we fly the flag proudly in Woodbridge even though we don't have a mayor.

Karen, We also fly the flag proudly in Spring and we have no mayor, no city, no town we are actually an unincorporated section of Harris County and Spring is just a way to describe us.  We are a huge area in 3 different school districts.  In all truthfulness we would love to be able to incorporate but we are a cash cow for Houston so that is not going to happen so we will just fly our flag proudly!

Karen I like the phrase " we have been doing it  as long as there has been a United States"  yes each area has a unique way of operating.  Here the school district can be in two different counties and you live in one town but your post office is in another.

Marchel  The difference is that the county is our principal form of government

Karen, Here I thought we were unique.  Our principle form of government is also the county; everything for us is taken care of through Harris County Precinct 4.  They have our courthouse , constable etc.  We are in the same county as Houston but we are not a part.  (Our county is bigger than 17 states.)  We don't have a common water though so water has to be taken care of by Municipal Utility Districts.  We happen to be in a MUD that is fairly young which gives us a fairly high MUD tax also.  Our area is in three different school districts also.  It can get very confusing!!!

Marchel  Well, I am confused, but there is a great deal of similarity in our respective systems.  Thank you for all the input - I learned a lot  :)

Karen, LOL, I have to admit it has been a confusing area to live in.  It does sound like we have very similar areas.  It is nice to know that we are not alone!!  I live in Spring but have a Tomball phone number and do most of my shopping in The Woodlands.

Karen - how very interesing and so different from where I live now.  I think it may have been like that in Colorado - but that was so long ago I can't remember how it worked.  Here all the cities govern themselves and right now the budget is the biggest issue for all of them. Quite the mess.
