Create Cool Home Staging Artwork From Your Photos

By
Home Stager with Dezigner Digz

I'm always looking for fresh concepts for artwork.  Here's an idea for creating a work of art out of your existing photographs.  Below is one of my favourite photos; one that I took a couple of years ago.  (If you follow by blog, you've probably seen it now and again in my posts, and until recently, it was the banner across my blog page.)  I've always loved magnolias; maybe I was a Southern Belle in my past life :-), so I wanted to use this photo for my "experiment".

I used a photo website called Picnik, for editing my photo.  I'm not the most tech savvy person, but Picnik has a great "idiot proof" programme that even I can deal with!  I used their cropping feature to dissect the photo into 3 separate, equally-sized segments.  From there, they were saved to a disk.

You can have these 3 new photos printed out on photo paper and framed with matting, or go the route of dry mounting.  It's not really any less expensive than framing, but I like the dry mounted choice for this project - it has a more versatile look for staging in various properties.

Hang all 3 segments together on one wall approximately 3 or 4 inches apart.  The space between each piece should be determined by the width of your wall.

There you have it, a great new piece of artwork from your photo!

Charlene, I just took a webinar course on Picnik from Jackson West, and have already been playing with Picnik's features.  This is a great idea for artwork.  Also, you are very good photographer - I love the photo of the magnolia.  I also really like Sandi's photo above.  Thanks for sharing this.

Charlene (or should I call you Scarlett?)- I love this idea! I have used Picnik, too, but this is something new I hadn't thought of! Did you look into the cost of putting it on canvas? I know a photographer who has his photos drymounted, and then adds a block of wood to the back to make them stand out from the wall a bit--very nice effect! Thanks for this tip! I LOVE your photo!!!

I apologize for taking SO long to reply everyone.

Linda - You're welcome.

Stacie - I really like Picnik too. Even I can use it.

Sheila - You're welcome. Hope your picture turns out great.

Kathy - Hope you find it useful.

Donna - I'm curious about that too.  There's nothing Southern about me other than that I live in Southern Ontario! :-)

Lori - You're right, it is called a triptych.  Funny name isn't it?  I didn't know that you were a painter.  You're one talented lady!

Marc - Thanks!  You're right, it's very easy to do.

Cathy - Thank you.  Magnolias have always been one of my favourite flowers.

Liz - Thanks!  Hope you give it a try.

Sharon - Have fun with Picnik!

Sandi - That is a GORGEOUS photo!  Thanks for sharing it.

Cynthia - Thanks for the compliment!

Brian - No one is more technologically challenged than I am.  If I can figure it out, I know that you can.  Good luck!

Sally - Thanks for your kind words.  I really wish I had taken Jackson's photography webinar!

Elaine - LOL!  I must say I had to catch my breath when you called me Scarlett.  I sat there for a minute thinking how could she know?  Did I write it in a blog post?  That used to be one of my nicknames.  The other name was Red because I used to dye my hair red.  If I was being mischievous, Scarlett, my alter ego would come out - too funny!  Never thought of Scarlett - Southern Belle - Gone With the Wind - hmmmm.  I wonder if she liked magnolias? :-).  I didn't inquire about having it done on canvas.  That would be interesting.  I have had the photo blown up to poster size as well and it is matted and framed and hangs in our living room.

Michelle - Thank you!  Give it a try.  I know yours would be beautiful, you're so great at photography!

Karen - I like the fact that you won't see another one just like it at another staging job.

Michele - You're very welcome!

Kathryn - It's very easy.

Debra - Thank you!  I hope you have as much fun with it as I did.

Ginger - A new DSLR - lucky you!  Have fun on Picnik.

Kathy - Thanks so much for your kind words.

Beautiful job, Charlene!  You have a tremendous eye for photography, an d you must have a wonderful camera as well!  That was a gorgeous  photograph.  I think my point & shoot camera has been dropped too many times to retain its former pixel glory.  I'll have to go check out Picnik; it sounds intriguing!

Charlene--

I love picnik, use it all the time. How much did it cost to get those printed in that size? Cool idea. Thanks for sharing.

Tori - Picnic's great isn't it?  I just finally upgraded to their premium service.  I should have done it long ago.  For this particular picture, I actually decided to have it printed as one photo and matted and framed.  It cost me $80 to have it printed to poster size.  Since I was going to keep this one for myself rather than use it for staging, I splurged and had it professionally matted and framed.  That cost around $375.00.  I have it hanging in my office.  I can't recall offhand what it was going to cost to have it plaqued in 3 separate pictures.  I know it was substantially less.

Charlene - love love love this, I think free is best.  Also love to do photo art of the area.  I cover the North Fork of Long Island, NY, so beach shots, vineyards, sod farms, old farms and buildings.  Play up the area makes the buyers appreciate the neighborhood they are buying into!
