If the Market is So Slow, Why am I so Busy????

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Professionals BK659643

Analyze This! For months and months, we have been told the Real Estate MARKET is slow.  That may be true, but why am I so busy?   Hmmmm, WHY am I so busy????  It was a topic to think about.  I've been VERY busy, yet the mass media and stats are trying hard to brainwash us all to believe the market is slow, slow, slow.   But, there are new leads, and I have worked with 4 different buyers over the last two weeks. All are motivated buyers and are viewing homes.  (That's why I haven't been blogging).

So let me analyze all this - (careful...I'm thinking) and I'll share my thoughts and opinions on all this.

Yes, compared to 2006/2007....our local market is slow.

Yes, compared to 2005-2007......our inventory is high.

BUT...a Real Estate "MARKET" is a "LOCAL issue" - not a nationwide issue or a statewide issue.  You can't compare apples to oranges, if you know what I mean.

Currently, there are "FEWER" Realtors that are servicing our local market. If I were to guess, there were over 1,300 Realtor® members in our local MLS in 2006. Now, I would say there are about 700 members.

To be even more specific, how many of the current Realtors® are learning & using the new "tools of the trade" to market themselves, their services & their listings, and attract new buyers & sellers???

Thumbs Up!That is one important thought!

My clients come from two sources:

  1. My Database - My Sphere of Influence - Referrals
  2. My Internet Marketing - My Blogging - My Google Juice
The number #2 above is proof of the VALUE of my membership in the ActiveRain community.  It's where I have learned everything about blogging, Internet marketing, Internet presence and social media. And all those aspects change weekly - there is something new to learn everyday.  It's funny to note that I joined ActiveRain in July 2006, which was during an extremely HOT local market.  I am so glad that I stuck with it. (And so are my clients).    The new tools of the trade are generating more business, marketing my listings, and building a priceless business network.

And THAT IS WHY I AM SO BUSY !!

So, remember...If I am not sitting here blogging and posting.....it's because I am with CLIENTS.

I think we are all working harder for the same outcome, I know I am very busy, but it takes so much more to get a deal to close these days. I am thankful none the less

Steve - well you just keep it cranking in your good market!

Karen - AMEN on the Bank issue for sure!

Gerry - I agree about "working harder"...with high inventory, the buyers want to see many homes.  The sellers get frustrated about the length of time on the market too.   There's no magic potion, but we will do what it takes won't we?

I think in general local markets change and each is different.  I am really busy too!  Don't always believe what you hear on the TV.

Christine - I'm finding myself much busier this year too.  Since real estate is so local, I don't appreciate the broad based brush that the media paints of the real estate market.  Consumers need to find out what is going on locally in their towns and neighborhoods.  What better place for them to get that info than from Active Rain and through the variety of social networking platforms we have at our disposal.

amazing, isn't it, how the media always spins their tales of disaster - I have stopped reading the newspaper totally and get major news from NPR and the internet -
