SunRocket - To the Moon?

  • I'm distraughtsunrocket to the moon

Apparently, the VoIP company I've been raving about for years has just gone under and I just found out in an e-mail message from them.

  • I'm embarassed.

Last customer count I heard about for SunRocket was around 200,000 and I know I personally helped contribute to that amount to the tune of a dozen.

  • I'm upset.

I've been a loyal customer since this company's inception and it upsets me that they went under because they weren't able to make a profit offering such a great product.

  • I'm confused.

The Voice-over-internet Protocol (broadband phone service) business is so simplistic in its concept that SunRocket, the formerly second-largest independent VoIP provider, was not able to bundle more ridiculously expensive crap with its basic service (like Comcast and Verizon do) in order to make a mint and stay in business. How about that "triple play" with the promo prices that only last a couple months? Oh yeah, and the promo prices really are not that primo, now are they?

  • I'm sad.

I'm so sorry to see this company bite the dust.  I actually looked forward to paying my annual phone bill for a whopping $199.  It was a pleasure to make all those free long distance calls and not have to worry about how long the call lasted.  How efficient it was to check my voicemail messages on-line.  How easy to create sound files just by leaving myself a message.  Aah, the possibilities were endless.  Alas, those were the days.  It's ironic that they billed themselves as the "no gotcha phone company" yet I think they just got me -- at least they just got my last annual payment in May.  It always did seem too good to be true...

Lanette, don't take it personally, you can only control what you do.  Don't worry about the things beyond your control!  Others understand you are not the one in control!

Yep, I know, David -- I'm just dreading the thought of having to choose and deal with another company.  There's a ton of competition out there but I've really been spoiled these past few years...

Lanette:  I have an account for long distance, with my 800# too, at 5 cents/min  It is a company owned by MCI.  It is called TTI out of San Antonio.  No contracts and no problems after 5 or more years.

Hi, Joan -- I'm looking for 0 cents/min, seriously! That's what I was paying with SunRocket.  I just paid that $199/year and that was it.  I even had a second number that my husband used (with a different ring pattern) that was free.  I guess that's why they're bankrupt now, huh?
