Can't You Run Around The Block

My daughter can not get enough of running.

You would think there would be enough races in which to run locally, in Maryland, whether they be 3, 5, 10, 25, or whatever amount of miles.  But no, first it was to Florida and next it was Anchorage .............. That's right Alaska.

I asked her if she was going to be in the Iditarod, that 1000+ mile trek where the most fit of dogs pull you and your sled through the rough and tough terrain of Alaska.  Well that race starts earlier in the year and she went in July, the time of year when it is always daytime (I thought maybe she would get a better rate on her room since it would be just one day).  She only ran a half marathon on that trip.  She is pretty fast, which may be important with all of those polar and grizzly bears that are up there, not to mention the big goofy moose.  (I wonder; there are white bears, white rabbits, and white fox; could there also be white moose?).

The trips continued.  She went running in Maine, Utah, Arizona, Arkansas, Virginia, California, and I forget where else.

Boston and New York are in her sights for the short term, but not too far away she is considering some runs in Europe.

Each stop includes more than just running, but, also, lots of sightseeing of these wonderful areas.

Something went right in her upbringing, because she supports herself, saves tons of money, and still travels all over the place.

How about you?  Are you getting the time in for fun and adventure or does this economy have you bogged down and just barely making it?

Ron:

I just ran around the tennis court for an hour and a half.  That's what keeps me in balance.

It sounds as though you should be very proud of your daughter - and, I am sure you are.

Claudette,

Yes, absolutely, I am proud.

I've tried tennis, but my baseball instincts keep getting in the way.  "That ball is outta here."

So, I like my daughter spend lots of my exercise time running, although, usually a bit closer to home.

When we run the same race, she is always there at the end to greet me when I finally come across the finish line.

Ron,

It is the nature of an active, healthy, and inquiring mind to want to experience more and more.  It looks like she has that.
