What Seperates You From The Pack

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Central Delaware

I was wondering with the the thousand of Real Estate Professionals that are in the area (and ones in your company), what separates you from the pack and I thought it from several perspectives and this is what I came up with:

1. The Favor of God- If you are in a place or job that is Ordained by God, His favor will accompany you.  Not to use favor as an excuse to not be diligent or well equipped in your craft.  Your relationship with Christ separates you from the pack because its not really about the provision, its about His righteousness reigning through the transaction.  When clients realize that it is God it the middle of the transaction, they realize that you are there for them and ultimately God is in control of the transaction.

Really I could have stopped right there.  If the Father is not the source, is the source worth having?

2. Professionalism/Appearance- I was sitting at an Open House when one of my partners asked if one of the Mortgage REPS that they has just communicated to could come by and so I said yes.  When this individual arrived at the home to conduct "BUSINESS," they arrived as if they had just roled out of bed....the individual look a site!  When the potential new buyers started rolling in they either did not want to have interactions with this person or thought they were just there to look at the house. Trust me I am not knocking on the way that this person is dressed, but I do believe that when you are conducting "BUSINESS" that the perception of the client is pivotal!

3. Personality/ Attitude-  Also from the Open House, the individual could not convey the information without coming off offensive or domineering.  Purchasing a home for some people is the biggest transaction that they will ever make and if you don't have the personality/attitude to deal with people and their decisions you are in the wrong career.

We can have all the websites, advertisements and TV commercial but when you are with the potential new"client," What separates you from the pack?

You have to celebrate your uniqueness - not apologize for being too old or young, too fat or too bald.  Be you.  That being said, a neat appearance is important, but it's not important to always dress in business attire.  I think some people are much more comfortable looking at homes with a guy in a nice logo polo shirt.  Courtesy, focus on you (the customer) are important attitudes.

That being said, I highly recommend setting aside a litte of each commission to save up for professional guidance in marketing yourself.  15 years ago I went to a Hobbs Herder 3-day program, DID NOT BUY THEIR MARKETING MATERIALS, but applied what I learned ever since.  It has really helped me with my business, and I plan to attend another one next month to help expedite my exit from the business.  LOL.  40 years is enough!

It was not so much the clothing as they were wrinkled and the individual was ungroomed.  I believe that you have to comfortable with the clothing that you have but will and iron hurt? Especially if you don't know who is going to be there
