Many people don't want to set up a salt water fish tank or reef tank because they have heard that maintaining a salt tank is a lot of work. I have the answer for all of you included in this group! It is the Geothermal Aquaculture Research Foundation,Inc. Visit their website at: www.garf.org and see just how easy it can be. The secret is in their GRUNGE. What is grunge you ask?
Grunge is made of BACTERIA AND OTHER ORGANISMS FROM THE FINEST MARINE AQUARIUMS THAT WE HAVE KEPT DURING THE LAST TWENTY YEARS. WE ADD TO THIS GENETIC POOL OF FILTER ANIMALS EACH TIME WE RECEIVE LIVE ROCK FOR OUR RESEARCH.
GARF GRUNGE* HAS A VERY LARGE NUMBER OF CORALINE ALGAE SPECIES IN IT.
NO WILD LIVE SAND CAN HAVE THE BIODIVERSITY FOUND IN THIS ACTIVATOR!
Here is the letter that we submitted to GARF after our first experience using Grunge in our reef tank. We have had our tank set up for several years, but when we found GARF GRUNGE is when we really got a beautiful reef set up going.
Here are some of the different corals that you can get with Grunge.

Subject:thanks for the grunge
Leroy,
We received our grunge eight days ago, and already we are seeing crazy things in our tanks. one of our tanks was set up from scratch 6 weeks ago and had little life other than the aragonite that I got from a friend. This tank now has many little critters crawling around after one week, and all of our three tanks are crystal clear like never before.
The virgin tank was in diatom bloom, and was never scrubbed by hand, now is so perfectly clear. Thanks again. I look forward to ordering more stuff later. I was going to order critters, but my wife suggested that I order the grunge. I am glad she did.
Sincerely,
Peter Smith
Since adding the Grunge way back in October 2007, we have enjoyed watching all types of new and strange creatures appear in our tanks. Christmas tree worms, serpent stars, bristle worms... all from the Grunge. It is really interesting to see the chemical reaction that occurs in your tank for the first 24 hours. You can see some pretty cool and strange things happening right before your eyes.
GARF is saving our coral reefs in the wild with the research and education that they provide us. They do not take coral from the ocean, instead, they propegate their corals in captivity. Check out thier website for many other examples of what corals you can grow and instructions on how to propegate and nurture your corals into beautiful specimens for show!
