Being a Type B Realtor is Worth a Shot

By
Real Estate Agent with Exit Preferred Realty 623087

We all know that the money we make is great or we wouldn't be in this business. There are 2 types of Realtors and perhaps loan officers......

Type A - Business,Business and Type B -The Social Worker.

I am a Type B. What makes me a social worker/Realtor? Hmmm....where to begin. I can honestly say that money is never my motivation. I can honestly say that people gravitate to me and quickly share their stories for which I am grateful. When I laugh or show concern, it is always with sincerity. I have sat with clients for hours and listened to their problems that have affected their choices to buy and sell. With reluctance, I have played mediator between divorced sellers when discussing price. I have lowered my commission for those who are struggling. I have adjusted my schedule to accommodate a client in need and convinced my go-to loan officer to drop everything to meet with us. Once, I brought flowers to a client when her father fell ill with cancer. And once, I gave a gift card to a young couple going through a short sale so that they could have the money to enjoy their anniversary. It is these examples that make me a Type B and I'm proud of it.

Please don't get me wrong...both types are knowledgeable and hard working - very good at their jobs. And, my approach isn't for everyone and not everyone has the time to give or likes all that touchy feely stuff. But, here's where I beg to differ....the bottom line is not the almighty dollar. The bottom line is being that agent who sees more than a pay check, a market analysis, a contract, or a loan to process. And being that Social Worker/Realtor is great because in doing so, I always get referred, not interviewed, but happily referred.

A referral is the best reward and the highest compliment. How great is it to hear a new voice on the other end of the line of someone who already feels connected to you? If you haven't experience it, perhaps Type B is worth a try.

Linda - Excellent Post!  I so agree with your style.  "B" is definitely more rewarding!  I am a fan of Jennifer Allan's "Selling with Soul" book and style ... if you haven't read it - I'm sure you'll enjoy.  Blessings t you always!

I am definitely the Type B realtor too, since i'm a psychologist that shouldn't be surprising.  I truly miss talking to me clients when the deal closes and I don't need to be in daily contact with them.  One of the reasons I love this job is because of those great relationships that we can cultivate.  Nice compliment from Frank (#7).

Linda- what a great post. I hope that I am considered a type B Realtor. The money is great, but the relationships are worth so much more.
