In this Colorado Springs Real Estate market, it's amazing what you can discover! An early 1900's bungalow was hiding a treasure discovered at our home inspection ... a 1928 bottle of California wine found in the crawl space. Good job Mr. Home Inspector on your historical discovery! I was relieved that no bodies were found, only this very vintage bottle with an amazing story behind it.
My son's grandfather let me in on a little secret about 1928 wine. He says: "because the production of wine in 1928 was prohibited by the 18th Amendment, except for home use. 'While the manufacture, sale, and transport of alcohol was illegal in the U.S., Section 29 of the Volstead Act allowed the making at home of wine and cider from fruit (but not beer). Up to 200 gallons per year could be made, and some vineyards grew grapes for home use.' " So, the story behind the story gets even more interesting ... could this bottle have been smuggled into Colorado Springs?? I guess the mystery will always remain but at least the bottle was found!
By the way, kudos's to the home inspector who is shown masked up in the crawl space where this treasure was discovered!
This Colorado Springs Realtor loves the variety of our business, and all the little discoveries along the way ... including these older homes that are just full of mysterious surprises!
