Will there ever be another Sinatra?
"His phrasing has a lot to do with it, too. You feel he understands and means every syllable of the lyrics. He seems to be recounting a personal experience each time. He sings as if he knows. His phrasing is final, absolute, definitive - so logically and inevitably do the phrases follow each other that, after hearing him sing a song, that song never sounds quite right sung by anyone else. He phrases more as if he is speaking to someone: the intervals, word stresses, note values and rhythms are changed to fit in more with the cadences of colloquial speech. Add the breath control, the slurs, chopped notes, grace notes and held notes that have been his trademarks for almost twenty years and you have the basic ingredients that give that natural, effortless credibility to every word he sings."
- SINATRA by Robin Douglas-Home 1962.
I can recognize that there is talent in Hollywood. But will there ever be this kind of fame again?I could do without the face lifts, the high heels, the gold chains, the Nike endorsements, the affairs. The thugs, the cowboys, and the teeny boppers that are too sexy for sixteen.
I miss the tradition of old Blue Eyes. Sinatra swept the country with poise, elegance, and doing it "his way". His voice was unique because he felt his words. He believed in his music. He was a romantic.
He wasn't a synthesized Lil Wayne who sounds almost alien.
He wasn't a synthesized Britney Spears who changes so much she could be alien.
He wasn't a fashion obsessed sex symbol who claimed to be like a ....
He was a classic. A beauty, a true raw talent.
Come on American Idol, find someone who still loves music. Who can still sweep the world without selling out. I want elegance back....
We can I learn a few lessons from Frank. "My Way" He did it his way! Say the things you believe, Regrets, you may have a few, but then again too few to mention, State you case and live a life that's full.
Do it your way! Whatever that may be...
The entire package? Probably not. A singer who sounds like him? yeah...my cousin.
Eric ~ I am busting out laughing. Tell your cuz to sing a sond and upload to youtube so we can be the judges.. ActiveRain Idol..
Actually, I can get that for you. If not on youtube...at least an audio only version. I will post a link to it here later. I know he has something on his web site.
ok here you go. A link to his Facebook page. Towards the bottom you will see an audio section with Frank Sinatra tunes. Click play and that is Jim singing. Yes you may recognize him. He and his twin brother Bill are celebs.
I think Frank was one of a kind as he not only control his voice and song, but he control his life! Today's artist has no control over their career anymore.
Good morning Monique,
Old blue eyes will never be forgotten..he did have style, grace and did it his way with class!
He was truly a great one as far as entertainers go. Got to see him in concert twice and he did have a way about him.
