I'm sure by now that you've all at least heard of "fractional property" where several people have an ownership share of an asset.  Fractional luxury homes, resorts and jets have been around for a while.  More recently yachts and luxury vehicles have been added to the fractional mix.  And it seems like every month something new "goes fractional" -- racehorses, helicopters, vineyards, distilleries, designer handbags and expensive jewelry.  (With daughters ages 20 and 22, I'm quite partial to the fractional designer handbag idea!)

Well, hold onto your hats.  The newest entry into the fractional marketplace is...are you sitting down....get ready....FRACTIONAL DOGS!  Yup.  You heard me right.  Fractional dogs.

A company called FlexPetz (www.flexpetz.com) is doing a booming business out on the West Coast.  Someone had the (quite ingenious) idea to take some poor, unadopted pound puppies, train and socialize them and then sell them out in fractions.

My only question is -- when are they going to start fractionalizing kids?  Gosh...turn the clock back 23 years and I would have definitely signed up for a few weekends a month!

Cheers!

Too funny!  Mine are now 18, 20 and 22, they're all still living at home and no takers even now!  Cheers - Lisa

Lisa,

Unbelievable!  Who in the heck wants to share their dog?  Although I do see the advantages when it comes to the vet bills?  My Mom's dog had to have orthopedic surgery a few years ago and for 4 week afterwards, had to see the vet everyday.  The cost was not a pretty sight!

Cynthia -- I've got a couple of dogs myself so I completely understand what you mean about the vet bills!  From what I read, the type of folks who are "sharing"dogs are those that live in apartments/condos that don't accept pets, single folks who travel frequently on business, etc.  I guess it's a better alternative than the poor pups sitting in a kennel somewhere!
