Hawaii After the Quake...

By

For those of you not in Hawaii, I'd like to share some insight to what is happening here in light of the quake.  I've heard from some people on the mainland thinking all islands had significant loss and damage.  To clarify, our damage was most significantly sustained by the Big Island.  There is some road damage, structural damage to business, hotels and homes.  There were landslides, but nothing like I've seen in California. There was no tsunami generated...  Our people, for the most part, went untouched.  We had no fatalities and are very very lucky that the injuries statewide were minimal.

Our most heavily populated island is Oahu which is where I live and work.  The biggest drawback to the earthquake here was the lack of power for 7-14 hours for the most part. There are some parts of the island that remain without power, but most of us have had power since yesterday.  The islands of Oahu, Maui and Kauai are functioning the same as usual.  Less than 24 hours after the quake I was already scheduling showings, putting a deal together and closing an escrow.  The real estate business is still going strong.

We are definitely in business and didn't even miss a work day.  All is well in paradise...

7-14 hours without power is a Cakewalk. Try being without power for 2 weeks....Trust me, it`s not fun..

Thank God everyting is getting back to normal for you.

I lived in So. Calif. and experienced many quakes myself. The Sylmar when I was very little scared me. And the quake that hit Mammoth Mountain the same day Mt. Saint Helens went off. It seemed like everything would return to 'normal' quickly, but you always have the scare with you.

I'm glad everything came out well for you.

It definitely was not as significant, nor did we go through the damage of some of my compatriates on the mainland.  The scare does indeed stay with you.

We're lucky...  Thanks so much for your comments and good wishes!
