What GREAT items to remember...in the busy world of web sites and on-line marketing, this is STILL very IMPORTANT
I've been reading blogs recently on several platforms, including Active Rain when the commenters are using condescension as a tool to make their points. Some of these are Member's Only blog posts, but many are not. The other sites like Trulia and Zillow are all public forums and ones which many consumers are using to do some research. So I wonder the strategy behind working condescension and contempt into the tone of the answers and comments.
I grew up with the guidance of civility and constructive criticism. I know that there are vastly different opinions and beliefs in real estate as in life, but why do they need to be conveyed via barbs and jabs? And more importantly, does this attract clients? I would say "no." I would never reach out to a professional who is condescending and down right nasty to other agents. Minimally, I would not put myself in a position to receive the same tone if I did not understand something....but more than that, I would be concerned that this person has built a reputation of being difficult and wonder about the ability to get my offers accepted.
This is a personal industry. We work off of our reputations. Maybe these sites are an outlet for people. but I see no point to spending valuable business time blogging and commenting if we are not attracting new clients, and to me....the venting of irritation is not only a waste of time, but a giant step backwards.
