ActiveRain Newsletter - Your Chance to Reach 100K members
Re-Blogging Bob... I will seldom Re-Blog agent to agent stuff on ActiveRain but this is an opportunity... it's not really a contest. See Bob says so "It's not really a contest, because everyone has the chance to be a winner. Help me build some themed newsletters."
I just started getting the ActiveRain Newsletter again. I got it when they just started doing one but I got in a snit over the fact that I had NOT subscribed and they were sending it to me. Then when I tried to subscribe I was NOT getting it. Wonder if I have a bunch in a SPAM filter somewhere...
Back to Bob's post. Interesting what people DO not open and what we do open... I am good with titles... maybe I'll try it. Are you going to try your hand at editing an issue of the ActiveRain Newsletter? Smart Bob is farming out his editorial duties!
Bob says "To submit a themed newsletter, send it to me at bob@activerain.com "
Do you get the ActiveRain newsletter? We send it out daily. It goes out to 107,000+ people. I don't know if you've ever sent anything to that many people at the same time, but there are challenges.
(Spam filters get fired up, sometimes it never even makes it to your filter as your email provider blocks it at their server......lots of reasons why it's a challenge to get it in everyone's inbox. This isn't about that. If you don't get it, look at my side bar. There is a spot to sign up. Sign up. If it says you are already getting it, sign up with a different email address because the one you are signed up is blocking us from sending it)
One of the biggest challenges is actually coming up with something worthwhile to send every day. That responsibility is mine. I'm not going to lie to you, sometimes I mail it in, picking 6 or 7 of the 8 posts from the featured board. Other times I will use only one or two and go find 6 fresh posts that no one has seen. Sometimes I'll have my future mother-in-law help me out by picking out the posts, the video and a featured member. No question, the hardest part every night is selecting the headline.
A headline, when you are sending to 107,000 people, can mean a difference of 20,000-30,000 opens. That's a huge variation. I've found over my time of doing this, that people (and by people I mean you all) like:
- lists as a headline: '5 reasons the housing market is recovering' (for example)
- something negative: '5 reasons the housing market stinks'
- Talk of increasing business: '5 ways to close more deals this month'
and they don't like:
- Anything with ActiveRain in the title: 'ActiveRain hits 1,000,000 posts'
- Technical stories: 'HUD Announces new Good Faith Estimate, What are the Implications'
- Internal Reflection: 'Is the Real Estate Industry Really Ready to Raise the Bar?'
One thing that I've always wanted to do is a themed newsletter on a more consistent basis. I've done it a few times over the last two years. That's where you come in. It's not really a contest, because everyone has the chance to be a winner. Help me build some themed newsletters.
What does a newsletter need?
- 8 posts
- A title, based on one of the posts, that will make people want to open the newsletter
- 1 video
- 1 featured member
- (that's it, I'll take care of the rest)
What are some possible topics? I bet we could come up with hundreds of them. How about:
- the listing presentation
- open houses
- range pricing (Broker Bryant you could carry this one entirely on your own, right?)
- Working internet leads
- Home Staging
- Things Agents do that piss you off
- Stuff you can write about to generate business
- Common home inspection issues
(there are literally thousands of ideas!)
Do all 8 posts have to be yours? Of course not! In fact, if they are, you can probably bet I'm not going to use it. Find a variety of posts on a similar topic written from different perspectives. Do the posts have to be new? Nope, they just need to be relevant to the topic. If I use your theme'd newsletter I'll give you 5000 points. I don't know how many a week I will end up using, but if it were up to my fiance, it would be every day, since I'm always sitting in bed at 11pm going 'just a few more minutes and I'll be done with the newsletter'.
