I ran into a lot of knob and tube wiring when I sold antique homes in Maine. It was sometimes difficult for people to get homeowner's insurance unless they updated the wiring!

We have many old homes dating from the early part of the twentieth century in our community and a good number still have some functioning "Knob and Tube" electrical wiring. Over the years, homeowners have replaced it little-by-little, but it's still amazing to see it on occasion. Thanks for an informative post.
