Some Interesting Information About Long Island New York by Feng Shui Long Island

While speaking recently to a friend from Activerain, she asked me a question in response to something about Long Island.  She wasn't aware that Long Island NY really IS an Island, she thought it was just the name of the place where I lived all my life.

As a Feng Shui Consultant who gets to travel through all the different Towns and Villages of Long Island NY, I thought I'd share some interesting information about it.

Long Island really is an Island!  As a matter of fact, it is the longest and largest Island in the Continental US.  It stretches 118 miles long from the New York Harbor but only has a maximum North-South stretch of 23 miles.  Long before the days of GPS'S I was actually able to find my way around-or to say that if I went the wrong way, I knew I would eventually hit Water! This helped as a Feng Shui Consultant who travels all over Lovely Long Island.

Long Island's total square feet is 1401 square miles, just smaller than the State of Rhode Island.  It encompasses two Counties, Nassau County NY and Suffolk County NY.

Nassau County New York is the 3rd Richest per Capita in the United States-and has the 2nd Highest Property Taxes in the US (WHY am I here....someone remind me : )

First inhabited by Native American Tribes we have only two Reservations remaining....The Poospatica Reservation and The Shinnecock Reservation.

The battle of Long Island was the longest battle on American Soil during the Revolutionary War (and people wonder why there is so much "spirit" activity?).

Oh, Meet "Bucky."  I didn't name him but I DID fall in love with him at a Shinnecock Reservation.  He's handmade and the wonderful Native American who sold him gave me a lower price then marked....he said he knew he was going to a Good Home ::)

Hi Carole!  Thanks for the very interesting elaboration.  When you speak of "Long Island" you do NOT consider Brooklyn or Queens as "Long Island(even though they are on the island!!!) because they are city boroughs?  Are they not King and Queen counties?

Carole, I surround myself with the things I love in my office at work, I have my 2 daughter's painting display in my office.  I am not sure it counts the same as you suggest for home, but it makes me feel very comfortable and serene when I see them everyday at work.

Love the Long Island history Carole!

Did you know, that according to Indian folkelore, the North Shore has rocky beaches because the Indian Gods were mad at the settlers. So, they threw all the rocks from Connecticut across the sound onto the Long Island North Shore beaches.

Bruce, Brooklyn and Queens are Boroughs and are not part of Long Island.  I really don't know if they were called that but it makes sense.  Many of the people that live on Long Island originally came from Brooklyn.

Susan, I didn't know the exact size until I looked it up...what I DID know about are the Property Taxes!  They're always due :)

Rita, We always suggest to bring things from home to your workplace to intentionally "connect" and reinforce the two spaces.  And of couse they should be things you love, I'm happy to read this!

Craig, I didn't know that but I almost believe it.  I know the Native Americans helped the first settlers (the Dutch) so much to live here and then had to fight some very bloody battles.  Thanks for the history lesson, I believe it!

Jo, Plan fast.....like this Spring.  Goodness, you've been saying that for years!  Come and visit and we'll have a wonderful time!

Carole - Everytime I drive by the water near my home and look across the Sound and can't help but think of you.  I haven't had an opportunity to visit Long Island in quite some time and plan on putting that on my list for this year.
