UPDATING BATH TILES - QUICK FIX

By
Home Stager with UPSTAGING YOUR HOMES

When the staging budget is tight, we really have to put our minds to creative thinking and find inexpensive ways to improve dated & tired looks.

This bathroom was a prime example of a room needing a fresher, less dated look.  I was able to find inexpensive replacements for the vanity, sink, mirror & bath hardware but ran out of money when it came to improving the tub.

I took off the sad doors, cleaned up the tub and tiles, and added new grout; however there was no $$ to replace the dated floral tiles.doors

I knew once the bright clean shower curtain was up, the tiles would be hidden; however i wanted something more.  I didn't want buyers to pull back the shower curtain and go YUKK!

I found these plastic/rubber tiles at Home Depot that apply over existing tiles.  What an amazing difference eh?

Hi Sam,

Yes, it is quick and easy.  Colour selection not vast; however I am going to check out other HDs in Vancouver.

Best wishes,

Absolutely Maureen.  This was a budget-conscious job and it was fun to have these tiles look so great that those who knew what the previous tiles looked like thought I had re-done all the tub tiles.

Thanks Kathy,

Amazing what a difference a small thing like these tiles did for the bath tub area.

lol - yes I have started something.  I would be interested in knowing what colours the rest of you come across and how you use the tiles.

This has been a cool week!  Thanks for making my first year anniversary even more special.

Hi Sharon,

Have similar issue.  Can I grout over top of existing grout.  Want to change this grout color but tile people told me the existing grout had to be scraped out.  There is definitely a little trench that would fit more grout.

Thanks so much Chrissie.  Quick & easy, what all stagers dream of, especially when the results look so good.

Ana,

In my situation, the tiles I used to cover up dated ones did not require any grout.  They are applied on top of existing tile: no grout required.

Generally, the tile people are correct - existing grout would have to be removed.  Have you tried googling "changing grout colour" to see what comes up?

My fear would be if you grout over what is there, it may not set properly and will leak out or some such thing.  Not being a tiling expert I am guessing.

Another option is painting over tiles & grout.  Maybe check that out.

Let me know what you discover.

Oops I just read my blog again and I said add new grout, when I meant, add new caulking!  Hope that didn't mislead anyone.

Sharon,

Congratulations on a great makeover!  The rubber tiles give this bathroom an updated look without the big expense of a total remodel.  BRAVO!

Hi Sharon, what an absolutely brilliant idea. Definitely using that one whenever I can. I have seen these stick on tiles and stood there pondering what I could do with them. The colours caught my eye and now that I see your application they will be tried out as soon as possible. Will let you know the results.

Thanks Michelle,

I am looking forward to using them on my next project coming up - both bathrooms need some help.

Michelle,

I am so glad I have shared a good thing with you.  I am thinking about them for my upcoming project.  Would love to see what you do with them.

Hey Laura,

Yes, this bathroom needed a good scrubbing down before painting, caulking & staging.  Thanks for dropping by.
