Jaysey Jay Anderson in the Fog - Wins Gold for canada in the Men's Snowboarding Parallel Grand Slalom

Jaysey Jay Anderson...the two-time parallel slalom world champion came from behind in the two-man final on Saturday to win his first Olympic gold - does it get any better for this Canadian home crowd on the last day of competition at Cypress Mountain?  It was a white-knuckle showdown that lifted the screaming crowd to their feet. Chants of "Jasey, Jasey" echoed from the bleachers after the race.

Earlier in the day, Anderson faced elimination after finishing 20th in his first qualifying run. But he responded with the fourth-fastest time on his second leg to crack the top 16 and advance to the final rounds.  That's one of the things I love about the 'never give up' attitude of the Olympians........20th to 1st!

"A True Athlete Thrives on Adversity" said an emotional Jaysey.  "There's no better feeling then challenges like today - you're swimming all day in the fog and can't see anything - you just have to rise above it!" (literally)

For close to twenty years, Jaysey's been wearing one of several pairs of the same socks for competition.  Hiking up his pants, ""Really there is nothing worse than being a sock," Anderson said. "These are my ugly old socks," he said to laughter; white-toed, purple threadbare socks. "They've gone through exactly everything I have gone through, except they can't see anything," he said.  And here I thought they'd be wearing special athletic thermal socks!

I'm getting myself some 'lucky' socks!

One has to admire tenacity and a true sense of conviction. Coming from 20th to 1st just goes to shoe a person what mindset and determination and accomplish.

Liz, Seeing some of those near white out condition on days I am amazed at how well these incredible athletes did!   This has certainly been the show of the season, I believe I'm going to miss watching it every bit as much as you!

Kirsten - it's been pretty amazing - it's been great for uplifting the spirit that's for sure! Terry - yep we already have set the new record - so that's cool.  Carole - I know - major withdrawal! Jeanean - I know being Canadian coverage it doesn't appeal for some of my U.S. friends - but It's like a journal for me - one day I can look back at!  Tom - it's pretty amazing what some people can do isn't it? Debra thanks - I guess that's why athletes are such role models :-)
