A post on ActiveRain this a.m. suggests that It Does Us No Good to Bash the Government(Link omitted because it's not published to the PUBLIC.)

                                          * * * *  HARD CORE REAL ESTATE TALK * * * *

I DISAGREE.  When the government has failed and the actions of government officials lead to significant harm to the citizens, they should be exposed and bashed.

I have a vivid memory of the time, 2003, when the White House tried to rein in the permissive loan guidelines of Fannie Mae, et al.,and they were thwarted by Congress, Frank, Dodd, et al.

I also recall the perfidy of Franklin Raines who manipulated the financial reports of Fannie Mae to increase his personal bonuses to the tune of $Millions of Dollars.

I also recall that Fannie Mae, the purveyor of loans to unqualified buyers was exempted from Sarbanes Oxley, thereby protecting Mr. Raines from criminal prosecution for his financial perfidy.

I also recall that it was politicians/government representatives, Phil Gramm specifically, who caused the repeal of the Glass Steagal Actthereby permitting the Wall Street Gangs to benefit in the $Billions by secuitization of by the GSEs of the MBSs, which subsequent defaults contributed to the housing collapse.

If an investigation of the facts and causes of our collective financial collapse places blame on those responsible and they turn out to be corrupt politicians/government officials, why should that not be encouraged??

If we don't expose the perfidy and incompetence of government officials now, how can we protect ourselves from them in the future???

Why let them hide under the veil of obscurity??

Jeff.  I got it.  However, every time I hear one of the admin. folks or a Gibbs whine about what they inherited, I'm always reminded of the gentleman whose Mom left him her house in her will only to find out that she owed about $600,000 on a home valued at about $400,000.

He thought he had to come up with $200K and had to take the house.

He called me to inquire about a short sale.  HA!  his name wasn't on anything.

I always want to scream, you didn't have to take the job.

Gregory.  I am not the voice of reason.  I'm the soul of reason.

My slant isn't "heavy to the right".  In fact it's not even slanted.  My opinions are deliberately, intentionally and squarely pointed at the administration and Congress, not to mention the tax avoiding Sec. of the Treasury.

I also recall that the Republicans didn't control the Congress since 2006 and that's when, if I recall, the financial and housing trouble hit the fan.  Neither party gets a pass in the mortgage mess.

That nonsense about "red lining" is just about 30 years out of date.  Funneling $Millions to ACORN was hardly a force for financial stability of our economy and had nothing to do with red lining.  The Frank/Dodd/Raines cabal didn't corrupt the mortgage market out of a sense of seeking equality for borrowers.  They were lining their pockets and lining up more votes without the trouble of having to stuff the voting rolls which is such an inconvenience.  Was it "red lining" when Frank/Dodd/Raines saddled minorities and the poor with bad mortgages??????  If that was red lining, who was doing the red lining???

You expected more of me??  Who appointed you the judge of what I write???  In the spirit of Free Speech, not everyone writes to satisfy the expectations of others.

Do I lean to the right??  You better bet your boots I do and when I see our country going down the tube with an administration that got their job through lies, trickery and deceipt, I'm not afreid speak up.

All of which, in my view, is perfectly reasonable.

Lenn - I support you wholeheartedly.  Where are the investigations we were promised?  There was none.  Why?  Because it is difficult to investigate yourself.  Shame on us for not policing our own.

Bravo Leann! There's an old saying ' Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them'. As a country we need our government to keep this in mind.

The concept of not bashing the government makes no sense to me.

I couldn't possibly agree more.  We do need to call out our government.  They are ruining the mortgage industry right now and I am quite sure it will cause home prices to stagnate.  Then we'll all suffer.

But yes, we need to call out our government.  I know I shouted it from the rooftops when George W. slashed VA benefits, could not give a single speech without mispronouncing words, and invaded Iraq for no reason that they could adequately explain.

We need to be critical so we can advance our society.

Hi Lenn,

I agree, having free speech and choosing to ignore what's really happening around us, makes us ALL responsible for what's happening within our own country!!!  All countries from time to time should revolt to keep all the balances in check with our government and to remind them who voted them in and who has the power to vote them out!!!  Well done Lenn.....  ;>))

Lenn,

The repeal of the Glass Steagall Act, with Gramm the loudest backer, was probably the single most important factor that caused this current mortgage and real estate meltdown.

If we as citizens are open to bashing when we mess up, then the same should apply to the government!  Well said Lenn!

Lenn,

Right or wrong I only comment on about 5% of the posts I read and most of the time those are posts I strongly disagree with. Yo are a prime example of a blogger who doesn't neede another person leaving some lame comment just so the can agree with lenn Harley I believe you have quite a few already.LOL

So here is a blanket comment, In three years I haven't been able to find one thing to disagree with you yet.

Bless you Dear, you are efinately in the top 10 AR members I would love to have lunch with someday.

Lenn, it is a right that we have, and a right that should be exercised when those that are suppose to be representing us forget that.

Lenn ~ I am not as well written or as articulate as you, but I will "fight the fight". When I am determined, good luck on stopping me. I am silent until I get p&^^%$. The incompetence, arrogance and disregard for the people, I can't tollerate!. The state and local government officials thinks is is the "good old boy -ancient system" has got to go. Love your commentary.

Don't forget former HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo, New York's current AG.  In 96 he Approved RESPA changes to Section 8 Legalizing the payment of " Kickbacks ".  Initially the change was titled " Controlled Business Arrangements", but was met with such uproar that the policy change name was changed to " Affiliated Business Arrangements ".

To think he is the one now going after everyone on Wall Street, and he also pushed HVCC on to us which now inflates appraisal costs...........some savings to the consumer............they now pay $100 to $200 more for HVCC appraisal.

Disgraceful and hypocritical to say the least.

Thanks for your post.

One of the great things about living in the United States is that we have the rigth to speak out.  Therefore, we should speak out and often!

Thor.  Cuomo??  You mean the likely next governor of New York????

Mike.  Thanks.  I'll pick it up.  I like Charlie.

Paula.  Indeed.  I do and often.

Monique.  You are quite articulate.  The "good old boy" system is one of the plagues of Congress.

George.  Indeed. They have not only forgotten, they are ignoring us.

FOR ME, NOTHING IS MORE DANGERIOUS THAN A WOMAN SCORNED UNLESS IT'S A WOMAN IGNORED.

They will ignore us at their peril.

Hugh.  Thank you, thank you.  Where would I be without folks to read my blog??  Talking to myself perhaps???

Jeani.  Thanks.  IMO, the government is "bashing" the electorate when they take contributions from entities for whom they sponsor legislation, . . . .  like BANKS.

Esko.  I agree 100%.

Ann Marie.  Thanks.  I can't wait for Tuesday, November 2, 2010, election day.  I can't wait.

#79.  Shout it out!

Aaron.  Indeed.  Why indeed??

Cindy.  We need to watch, listen and speak out.  I'm more inclided to watch want they do rather than listen to what they say, primarily because we can't believe a word they say but we can surely watch what they do.

Tim and Pam.  Not to worry.  We're speaking out and many will listen.

I just wanted to say again how much I enjoyed this stream of comments and the way you reply and talk the talk (without resorting to name calling, putting words in other peoples mouths, distorting the truth and umm...you know hyperbole) ;-D

I like the fact that you actually know WHEN to use a 2X4 and I am definitely a fan!

It is our right and are duty to tell the government when we don't like something they are doing. The government represents us and if we don't make our voices heard, then they can't represent us, when a politician forgets this, then it is time for them to leave office.
