Time Is Running Out on Homebuyer Tax Credits

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Associates RS - 0019092

It may have seemed like a long time ago that the Homebuyer Tax Credits were extended and expanded and now all of the sudden we have come to the last two months to get under contract - settlement may occur by the end of June.

No one really knows if this will be the last time for these credits but there are some things to consider if a home purchase plan is in your near future.

  • Home prices are on the rebound and in many cities have shown price appreciation
  • Interest rates have been kept low for some time and speculation is that this will end soon
  • Inventory is still high, giving many choices within the same search parameters

Don't delay!  Speak with your Realtor about moving your purchase plan forward to get your $8000 or $6500 tax credit.  You will be happy that you did!

Great email, and you are so right.  We have to do something to get the public to realize that time is running out.  I'm afriad everyone thinks it will be extended again, and again.

I think there is so much conflicting noise about the real estate market it is difficult for many buyers to focus on moving forward just to take advantage of the homebuyer tax credit. I see many still looking for some signs of stability in the market. Also there is an expectation the credits will be extended or even expanded.

I find it better to focus on finding the right home at the right price and the monthly payment they can afford. These three factors seem to be the best motivator in my experience.
