So since it is summer, I figured it would be a great time to do some up close and personal research on some of the best things to do in Waco. I already wrote about my FAVORITE, the Dr. Pepper Museum and the close second, Cameron Park Zoo. But how in the world do you get cool around this place when Lake Waco is not an option due to our overabundance of rain and flooded lake levels? Yep, you got it, Waco Water Park. If you have not been there, it's time to give it a try. And if you are new to Waco, don't wait to visit, you will truly enjoy!

Opening at noon during the weekdays, 10 AM on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday, I would suggest that you get there when it opens before it gets crowded to grab yourself a space in a shady spot for when the sun gets to be too much. Two big waters slides, a lazy river, a whirlpool, a great little water play area for the little ones, and a lap pool for those that want out of the hustle and bustle of the kids at play. This place is really NOT just for kids.

I am impressed with the number of life guards and the complete control they seem to have over the pool. Nearly every where you turn, there is a life guard either watching over or swimming inside the pools. The City of Waco does a great job here.

There are locker rooms and showers where you can change or store your things. Just make sure to bring your own lock if you plan to use a locker. I did not see a place to rent or buy these. A concession stand and cold drink machines are convenient for buying drinks or treats. I believe you can bring your own things though, which may be preferable to some.  Just call ahead to check the rules before bringing your own food and drinks. Also, there are some fast food places around the McLennan Community College area that are quick and easy to drive to.

For only 6 dollars for visitors over 48", 4 dollars for visitors under that height, you can't beat the heat any better than this. Season passes are available and kids under 3 are FREE. And if you are just there to watch the kids swim, it's only a 4 dollar spectator fee. This is a very nice Waco Pool to be enjoyed by all. Just don't forget your Sun Block!

7/23/07--Update on bringing food and drink to the park. No outside food or drinks are aloud, but you might consider packing a cooler with a picnic style lunch. You can go outside the Water Park to your vehicle and tailgate or sit in a grassy area for a quick and easy lunch then go back to play after done. Again, make sure you call ahead to check all the rules before you visit.

One more rule that I noticed is that you may not bring flotation devices except for approved life vests. So no pool toys or rafts or anything. It makes sense and you won't need them to have fun. Again, call ahead for rules.

3 Comments on Cool Waco Fun This Summer at Waco Water Park

I wish we had one of these in New Orleans. The sun and our humidity are melting us...

Joshua and Thesa--thanks for your comments. This really is a great little place to spend some cooling off time in the summer. And at such a good price. I think everyone should go at least once just for the fun of it. Money well spent.
