The 15th Annual Scottish Highlander Games were held at the Clay County Fairgrounds just outside Green Cove Springs Florida on Saturday, February 27, 2010. Ancient Scottish Games such as Weight over Bar and the Battle Axe Competition were some of the day's fun and authentic activities.

When I think Scottish, I think bagpipes, and they did not disappoint. There were several bagpipe bands, including one from Clay County and one fron St. Johns County - The Ancient City Pipes & Drums.

When I think Scottish, I also think kilts and Clans. The kilts were everywhere, and the Clans fully represented. I even learned the plaids for my grandmother's Campbell Clan. There are four in all - one plaid for everyone, one for Military, and a couple more for different branches of the Clan. There are over twenty other names that fall under the Campbell Clan.

There were vendors with all things Scottish and Celtic, authentic Celtic food from Scott's Keltic Kitchen, and custom sodas poured in Blue keepsake bottles from Clan McGilly's Piper's Pub Tent.

It was kind of cold to be wearing skirts...kilts, I mean. I tell folks I am scotch-Irish, Irish by blood, scotch by consumption!

That was interesting.  I didn't realize there were so many Scottish descendants in Florida.
