Danbury is rich in history & takes great pride in remembering the past. The Danbury Fair was the state's largest fair running from 1869 - 1981. In order to remember how the "Great Danbury Fair" helped put Danbury on the map, the Danbury Fair Mall was constructed on the fairgrounds.
Danbury Fair Mall opened in the mid-1880's boasting 250 stores and at that time was the largest mall in Connecticut.
Today, it is the largest mall in New England & hosts the annual Danbury City Fair, 4th of July Fireworks, antique, home, boat, car, college fairs & bridal shows.

The Charles Ives Center for the Arts, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1974 and incorporated in 1976 to honor the memory of Danbury native Charles Edward Ives. The Ives Center produces the highest quality music and other arts-related programming at Ives Concert park, a unique outdoor amphitheater situated on a beautiful area of state-owned land which includes 40 wooded acres, a pond, breathtaking gardens, and public hiking trails. Located on the Westside Campus, Western Connecticut State University offering a season program featuring world-renowned artists, symphony orchastras, pop, jazz & folk. The Musicals at Richter, is Connecticut's longest running outdoor theatre providing quality family entertainment to the Greater Danbury Area in the form of musical theater, operettas, musical revues & children's theatre.
Education
Western Connecticut State Uniersity (WSCU) is a public university in Danbury, Connecticut. Founded in 1903, WSCU has an arts and sciences curriculum, a business school & several professional programs including elementary & secondary education, nursing, music performance & social work. WSCU has two campuses (Midtown & West Side) located five miles apart & connected by a bus service on campus.
