Oscar Week NYC concludes with a gala screening of the Oscars.

To help New York City movie lovers prepare for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, the City is celebrating with a weeklong series of exhibitions, screenings, and film-related events at various locations.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center will showcase a number of classic films that shot on location in New York City, including West Side Story, The Godfather, Raging Bull and Annie Hall, among others, during a weekend screening series (March 5-7) at the Walter Reade Theater.

From now to March 7, The Shops at Columbus Circle will host Meet the Oscars,® a rare opportunity for the public to get acquainted with the famous golden trophy. Oscar fans can have their photo taken while holding a real Oscar, see the award that Judy Garland won for her performance in The Wizard of Oz and learn about Oscar’s intricate design process by examining several statues that are in various stages of completion.

Throughout March, Posteritati - a SoHo gallery devoted to the art of movie posters - is showcasing posters for classic New York films. The collection includes more than two dozen movies ranging from Midnight Cowboy to On the Waterfront.

From March 1 to 7, On Location Tours is reducing prices for its New York TV & Movies Sites tour by 20% in honor of Oscar Week NYC (use the promotional code OSCAR1). In addition, on March 7, the day of the Oscars, On Location Tours will launch its New York Movie Classics Tour (also at a 20% discount), highlighting locations prominently featured in a number of classic films, including Marilyn's subway grate in The Seven Year Itch and Woody Allen's scenic park bench in Manhattan.

Faux film stars will line up at Madame Tussauds New York, where wax versions of Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, and others will be assembled together in a special Oscar Week NYC exhibit.

To finish off the week, NYC & Company will host Oscar Night® and the City—New York's first official Oscar-viewing fund-raising gala and the glamorous culmination of Oscar Week NYC—at Alice Tully Hall on March 7.

Also, tune in to That's So New York: Oscar® and the City at 10pm on NYC life during Oscar® Week. NYC life is broadcast on Channel 25. Check nyc.gov/media for local cable and satellite listings.

Hi Mitchell... I might have to come up to NYC to have my photo taken with a real Oscar trophy!  All the years that I worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers I could never get my hands on one even though I did meet the Partner who was in charge of the AMPAS account!

Mitchell, I would love the tour they are offering....and will surely look into it.  ALL the events sound wonderful and I do know where a few movie locations were filmed but not some that you mentioned.  Thank you for the "heads up."

Mitchell - what a neat series of events, etc. East meets West. How cool is that? I love the historical aspect of what they are doing.

Steve, I didn't know you worked for Pricewaterhouse. Are you an accountant?  I hope to get to The shops at Time Warner center this week. I once held an oscar (another blog) it was heavy, but no picture.

Carole, The events sound really great. I hope I will finf the time.

Jeff, Yes, Hollywood on the Hudson. N Y has a lot of movie lovers.

Mitchell:

Sounds like a wonderful event.  When we lived in LA, we always held our own Oscar Party.  It was great fun as we all voted and there was an Oscar for the winner.  In Napa, we had a wonderful couple we made dinner with and watched the festivities..Thanks for the information.

Hi Ron and Alexandra, Thanks for stopping by. The Oscars are always fun (sometimes boring) but fun.

BTW: I love Napa. I have a friend in the bay area that owns a Cessna. When ever I visit we fly up to Napa for dinner. Great food and the best wine. The restaurant at Napa airport Jonesy's is excellent. Love watching the planes take off.

Mitch, well, it's all over now.  I was rooting for Ms. Streep.  Oh, well!  You really make me miss New York!
