Today, we're stalking the elusive Walking Closet. While some consider this beast mythical or at the very least, long extinct, we have recently come across the tracks and droppings of this magnificent creature.
While we might expect to see this on an episode of Animal Planet, we as Realtors more likely than not run into this animal on our local MLS.
Which brings me to my point today. Grammar and spelling count in your listings!
Grabbed from the remarks of my local MLS, here are some examples I quickly found:
"an Ample Walking Closet and a Private Master Bath " . . . "walking closets for him and her" . . . "Walking closet. Gorgeous bath with Jacuzzi tub." . . . "Second level has main bedroom w/walking closet and private bath. " . . . ‘the master bedroom has a walking closet with laundry." . . . ‘Master Bedroom With Walking Closet And Balcony. " . . . ‘MASTER BEDROOM W/CEILING FAN & WALKING CLOSET" . . . ‘Master bedroom with walking closet and updated master bathroom. " . . . "Large Master Bed Huge Walking Closet " . . . "The Main Bedroom Comes With A Huge Walking Closet And A Full Bath" . . . "Upstairs you will find a private master retreat with tray ceiling, a sitting room, large walking closet and relaxing master bathroom." . . . "large stall shower and skylight.large walking closet with professionally installed closet organizers" . . . "The luxurious master suite is completed with his and hers walking closet " . . . "The master bedroom suite has a large walking closet,a master bath with beautiful ceramic tile" . . . "The Main Bedroom Comes With A Huge Walking Closet "
For the record, the correct term for a closet that you are able to walk into is a walk-in closet. A walking closet would be a closet that has, by some magical spell, become ambulatory. Fellow Realtors, if your listing truly has a walking closet, contact me at once! I will purchase the home and make a fortune off of this fantastic, unique feature.
Your listing remarks are not only seen by your peers on your local MLS, they are more than likely seen by the hoards of real estate aficionados on realtor.com and on other sites where you post your listings. So why not put your professionalism and best face forward by spell-checking and proof reading your remarks before publishing them? Or, if you truly believe the term "walking closet" is the real definition for a closet that you can freely roam, then I'd suggest having a co-worker or the office secretary proof your text for you!
My broker summed up the walking closet so well. When I showed him a listing with the offending term, he replied, "Perhaps the house is so ugly, the closet is trying to escape!"
