On fire in Allyn...

Fire in AllynMy husband is a firefighter and has warned me many times to be careful when using the propane stove to cook. Long sleeves can ignite in a flash. I always thought I was really careful. Apparently I had become lax.

While making breakfast this morning I saw a flash of light and heard a whoof! I was on fire. I yelled to Dan who came rushing into the room and we got it out quickly. My arm is a little tender to the touch but other than needing to go shopping for a new shirt( side benefit) I am fine.

This did get me thinking about my kids cooking and my clients who are new to using propane. Before moving to LakeLand Village I cooked with electricity. It was slower and not as much fun as cooking with propane. I used to be so careful, now I have a little reminder on my arm to always be aware of the dangers propane cooking can pose.

So in closing- keep your sleeves rolled up, make sure you light the stove quickly and not allow the propane to pool and light a larger area than you intended. Be there when your kids are learning to cook. Make sure your towels and other flammable materials are away from the flame. Then maybe you will escape the little reminder I got this morning.

Wow! Thanks for the advice. How scary. Glad you're ok! Everyone needs to be aware of fire hazards because it can happen anytime, anywhere if you are not careful.

I hope you'll remember me if you learn of anyone moving to "The OC" and I will do the same!

All this propane talk has got me thinking of Hank Hill. My wife just 2 days ago caught her robe on fire. It smelled like bacon, haha.

When I was in my twenties, I was fueling a truck with propane. The 2 way radio clicked and I didn't know the cab of the truck had filled with propane. BOOM! I was burned pretty bad but the truck was totaled. I haven't been a big fan of Propane ever since. I'm glad your OK!

Glad to hear that you're alright.  Haven't never cooked with propane, it's good advice to heed for any of my rural clients that might.  The natural gas stoves that I have used have self igniters.

Well I'm certainly glad it's minor.  You are the second wife of a fireman I know who has set herself on fire.  Worries me a bit since my daughter is dating a fireman.
