This is another very helpful post that will be of great value to newbies when writing a blog post.  I learned from it and I'm hoping you will also.

Via Florida Real Estate Trainer | Daytona Beach After School Training | Midori (Sunnet Realty):

Do you know the importance of the first five sentences of a blog post?  If not, I'll share it..in most instances whether it be the ActiveRain real estate network or Word press...the first five sentences are the description of the blog post or some would call an excerpt..

Take ActiveRain for instance..the first five sentences are displayed on the dashboard..if these first 5 sentences are interesting and appealing there is a good chance someone will click through and actually read your post compared to the thousands that appear on the dashboard everyday.

Just like widget box..creating a widget of your blog..you have the option of the way you want each post to be displayed..if its interesting enough..people from around the globe may very well read and sometimes for the very first time...a great way to gain subscribers.

Let's talk about feedburner...add the code to your website..you have options...20 words...50 words or the whole post.  I try to make my post interesting within the first 20 words...I like a wide variety of post displayed on my website.

If you automatically post your links to Facebook...same thing..its a little intro and an opportunity for more click thrus...more readers and hopefully more sales!

So if you are not happy with the number of readers..subscribers...and sales that you should be generating from your blogs..consider the first five sentences...make them exciting...interesting and compelling but most of all make the worthy of reading!  If you found this useful please subscribe! :)

Although on vacation
I believe that you are absolutely right. Some people author great posts with back ups and the works, very proper and correct. People in social media, for the most part, only read small directblurbs. If the first sentence doesn't grab you, its hard to read on...

The first five sentences in anything are important.  Think of a book - or an Active Rain post.  If it's catchy, they'll read it.

Barb, how many times have I rewritten the first sentences knowing exactly that? And knowing how important it is to focus on the topic at hand? Thanks for reblogging this.
