The Flagstaff Aquaplex is scheduled to open in late Spring or early Summer 2008 and is well under construction on the southside of the 4th Street bridge in Flagstaff. Amenities will include a multi-activity gymnasium, weight and fitness area, aerobics/dance studio, a large community Flagstaff Aquaplex floorplanmeeting room with catering kitchen, an elevated walk/jog track, a babysitting room, a game area, a party room, a climbing wall, and a state of the art leisure pool that includes two indoor/outdoor body slides, current channel with over-pour for kayaking, family whirlpool, and a beautiful natatorium. Here is a floorplan:

The architect's (Barker, Rinker, Seacat) rendering of the exterior is a conceptual drawing of the exterior only, before materials were finalized. But here's the idea: Architect's rendering of Flagstaff Aquaplex

This week, City Parks and Recreation Director, Elizabeth Neumayer, said: "We are all very excited about the progress made with respect to the Flagstaff Aquaplex.  We're moving right on schedule with the construction ... and working diligently on plans for the inside (furnishing, fixtures, equipment, decor, public art, color palettes, etc.).  I know this will be the jewel in the crown of Recreation for Flagstaff and I feel blessed to be such an integral part of bringing it all to fruition!"Here is an aerial photograph of the site at the end of June:

Is this going to be affordable for the entire community or will it be like our other health clubs?

There will be fees for at least some programs and activities. Since it is City-owned, the fees will be comparable to what is presently charged at the Adult Center.

Catruita -- I believe there will be a sliding scale available. The rates are clearly going to be subsidized to encourage use. Opening date will now be sometime in September and I expect we'll have details on pricing before that.

Ann,  I was just visiting friends in Flag in March and they drove me around and one of the sights they pointed out was this proposed complex.  Very exciting addition to the town.

Aquaplex floor plan is so huge for all families. I like the swimming competition is called natatorium. I wish to be the winner about the gold medal the first one. I love it.
