Mary, a very well written post on title! We do need attorneys for these applications, leave it up to the pros!!
Very sage advice Mary, I couldn't imagine leaving such important details to say.... ME for instance to write up!
Hope you are doing well, hey we got another few inches here the other day. Woo-Hoo!!!!!!! But it was 90% gone the next day :(
I was going through some boxes of my girl friends father, he passed recently. In the box was a one page real estate contract and 1/2 page hand written deed. There was a survey that described the boundaries as a rock, tree and logging chain attached to the ground.
A PET RABBIT, are you kidding me!!!! Now, admittedly I'm no "animal lover" but a rabbit!!!!!! Drives me crazy to hear this. And, how about the Hollywood elite types that pass millions on to their dog. THOSE PEOPLE ARE JUST CRAZY, period end of story!!!
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!!! I feel better now.
Lewis
Hey Mary, I'm sure that surviving spouses, heirs, etc wind up in all sorts of terrible situations that could have been easily avoided. Great info!
Your language is pardoned, Mary! LOL It's amazing what some people want to do with their money after they're gone - and how they go about trying to make it happen!
Debi
Hi Jane, You're exactly right calling them horror stories, I'm sure there are hundreds of others but these are a few that stand out in memory:-) Thanks for stopping by Jane!
Thanks Caren, Do-it-yourselfers definitely need to leave this area to the pros! I'm glad you stopped in today!
Hi Cynthia, Wow snow in Georgia just seems wrong ( much like preparing one's own Deeds) but at least your snow melted right away :-) Nice to see you! All is well here, I hope the same for you. Thanks, Cyn!
Hi Dale, I love those old descriptions only because they are interesting! If this is a property he is still supposed to own, maybe not so interesting, though... What a find! and thank you for your comments today, I appreciate that!
HAHA Lew! I couldn't agree more, it does seem crazy doesn't it? People constantly amaze and surprise me when they do quirky things like that. It's my pleasure, glad you got that off your chest! Thank you Lewis.
Hi Sandy, You are right, most could have been easily avoided with a little bit of "I need help" and a little less of "I can do it myself" LOL Thanks Sandy, I'm glad you came by today!
Thank you for the pardon Debi! I guess people can do whatever they want with their money but it is amazing how they trry to go about it. Perhaps a little legal counsel would help since pet rabbits can't pay taxes or convey property LOL
What a great educational post full of very valuable information. Unlike what I just posted, which has no redeeming value whatsoever!
Great post Jane! Amazing how people are sometimes penny wise and dollar foolish. You're right, this is one time not to skimp on an attorney. I was a court reporter for many years, so I've seen this first hand.
I'm not an attorney so i let them do their work and hopefully they let me do mine.
It's ironic that you post this when in fact, in our area, nobody uses an attorney, even when pushed to do so, unless something is already horribly wrong. 99.9% of the time, all of our closings are handled by title companies.
What was that old TV commercial, "You can pay me now or you can pay me later?"
I am always amazed at the number of people who attempt a "do it yourself" and are then surprised at the less than happy results. One other thing, I always ask that a person hire an attorney who specializes in real estate. other wise it's like having a foot doctor perform brain surgery! Hey...That sounds like a great idea for a post!
Hi Janna, Thanks for stopping by, I did enjoy your most recent post, Janna - the redeeming value was laughter :-)
Hi Elyse, Oh I bet you heard quite a bit as a court reporter, that's very interesting! I'm glad you stopped in, thank you Elyse!
Hi Robert, That's the way it's supposed to work, right? Thank you for your thoughts on it, I appreciate that!
Hi Lisa, It's the same here, most closings are handled by the Title Companies. The problems occur after the closing when the owner's themselves decide to change things and prepare their own legal documents instead of seeking legal advice. :-) Thanks for stopping in Lisa, I'm glad you did!
Hi Rich, What was that old commercial? I know the words, but can't place it, but that just about sums it up, I think! Thanks Rich!
Hi Russell, That does sound like a great post and you're right, not all attorney's specialize in Real Estate -- Thanks for bringing that up and for your thoughts on it today!
What a wonderful post! You are a very intelligent and wise Lady!
Thank you very much for sharing and caring!
Very much needed post. I have had a lot of phone calls over the years asking me where to find those fill in the blanks deeds or wills. I always tell them to call an attorney. Thanks for sharing.
Good Morning Adam, Thank you so much for your kind comments, I'm glad you liked the post!
Hi Diane, I think you have the best answer for those callers. The consequences of DIY can be so costly! I appreciate your thoughts on it, thanks for stopping by!
Hi Mary,
People try to save money and it turns out to cost them sooooo much more!
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
Hi Ann, you're right! I have no data to support this but if a mistake is made, I would bet 9 times out of 10 it going to cost them more.
Good morning Mary,
Great post..it is amazing what people will do to save a dollar. Hiring an attorney to complete a will correctly is worth every penny. It could cost a lot more later if you don't! Not what I want my heirs to deal with!!
